Door Panel mounting nylon push pins

Okay, now I giving back in return for all the help I've received from this forum. I had the door panel off of my '78 5 speed 928 to repair the door lock linkages. Trying to put the door panel back was a real pain in the neck. Every time I pushed the panel against the door & moved on to the next section, the previous section popped out. Solution was/is to remove the stock Porsche nylon push pins, make a small slit in the door panel hole where the stock Porsche push pins are & use the push pins from any GM '77'- '82 car. The back side of these pins is wider than the Porsche & the shaft part is a little longer & it has many circular rings around the shaft allowing for any irregularities in the door panel fit. These GM push pins also are great if the door panel holes are worn out. I hope this info helps someone. Thank you all.

The stock push pins are available from all of the big 928 vendors. I just replaced a bunch in the door panels of my cars.

Good idea. Quick fix form NAPA instead of 10 days waiting on the mail. SOunds like they may hold better as well. I'll have to try them with my new panels.

10 days waiting in the mail? Where are you ordering them from, Germany?

The stock pins can be installed with the panel still covered and intact. The OP mentioned making a slit in the panel. That isn't necessary with the stock pins.

The only advantage of the pins from Advanced is price. They are about 1/4 the price.

I get my stuff from a large clearing house in outer Porshakistan...

Most stuff I get from 928 specialist takes a little over a week to get. Depends if they have it in stock or not. I've waited 3 weeks for a back ordered head gasket to come from germany. That's not bad, just NAPA is a "today" fix. It does involve cutting so if you have the P-pins floating around, I wouldn't do it.

I find 928MS the quickest, they always seem to ship same day.

Just don't buy the ebay clips, they are NOT correct.

Many of the clips on the 928 don't make sense as to how they are released etc. until AFTER you have them off and can look over the remains.

Good tools help. I have all the sets of nylon tools from Harbor Freight, as well as a nice pry tool from Lisle, but does little good if you don't know which direction releases the clips, or if the previous owner painted the car with the trim on so all the clips are now glued with paint.

I'm sure the stock door panel mounting nylon push pins are the way to go, but some of the holes in my door panels were worn a bit & the stock pins would not hold very well. These GM pins saved my door panels which other than some worn holes were in very good condition & the GM pieces appear to be of better design. This is my first 928. For the past 40 some odd years, all I've had were GM muscle cars & I've just use some of that knowledge to save a buck as in this case. Please, I don't want to or did intend to start a big controversy, this was just something I thought I would pass along as a quick fix in return for all the help I've recieved from this form. Thank you all again.

How about a pict of the GM clip and a Porsche clip side by side so we know what the differences are?

No worries pal. We aren't arguing. We are debating the virtue of various pin options. This forum is dead. We need something to talk about. Heck, if Tierra had come out against the GM pins, I may have taken the counter point just to keep it going. I'mm kidding about that.

Thanks for the contribution and welcome to the shark tank.

Pictures have a few requirements, it needs to be a .gif or .jpg ending on the file type, and less than some size (which I forget).

Use the go advanced tab.

Token 928 image.
