New appreciation for my turbo 928

After a while, driving a 600 HP 928 does become routine...but this week I now have a new found appreciation for my 928. The last two weeks Colleen and I were in Europe on our honeymoon and for Germany, Switzerland and Austria we had a Kia Magentis. Pretty nice car overall, turbo diesel and great on gas. In Ireland we had a Ford Galaxie turbo diesel mini van. Both were manual trans cars. Very smooth, reliable and great on gas but both very slow...specifically the van. One realizes how spoiled you can get when your daily driver car has so much raw power...it's sort of like something you never want to give up after having it. I loved the economy of the diesels, but the performance was lackluster. I think we saw 200 kph one time in the Kia...the van never broke 140.

Wow, looks like a great trip.

A 928 in Europe would be sweet, but I think its a treat few of us will ever enjoy.

Nice photos, I like the Ferrari 599 GTB in that last photo. I bet your twin turbo 928 would give it a good run for the money.

VERY cool!

-I don't understand why people from the east or the midwest go to New York, Boston, or Los Angeles. They are neat places...but if I wasn't an airline pilot with a job that constantly took me everywhere in the United States, Canada, and Mexico...I'd never go to those places!

[If I was without my significant other in Fort Lauderdale, I'd probably use my jumpseat privileges [fly anywhere FREE...as long as you have an airline ID] to fly all around the country. The first place I ever flew was San Diego.

June 1993: I was a fresh first officer for Atlantic Coast Airlines. I flew Canadian-built DeHavilland Dash-8 turboprops for them, all up and down the east coast. WOW I had a good time! WOW we were declaring "emergency" and pulling out the "QRH" or "Quick Reference Handbook" about each WEEk!!!

I'm serious; The airplanes, those Dash-8's? They were 18 months old when I left that place. Was that the fault of the constructor? I think NOT! ACA, which morphed into "Independence Airways" was the culprit. It was run by one man that is infamous in the airline industry for stupidity biblical proportions. His background? Pan Am.

Hello-? Oh-my-gawd-!

C. Edward Acker liked to come into the office of ACA with his two Jack Russel terriers. They always peed on the receptionists front counter, and the stupid women that they hired to man the place never had the guts to question Ed about his stupid dogs! I was in there one day and met him and his puppys, circa 1993. I was there in the spring of 1993 to pick up my uniform jacket and Ed showed up in front of me. I introduced myself [27 years old, massive hair going everywhere~] to him and apologized for my appearance, and asked him If I ought to buy a house in the Northern Virginia suburbs, since at the the time I was living off of Coltsfoot Drive in Ashburn.

He was logical, cordial, and he told me to buy the largest house I could afford in Northern Virginia. His dogs sniffed my feet, and didn't seem all that interested otherwise-

He was right. If I had bought a 2400 square foot 4 bedroom/3 bath in Ashburn back then then I'd be sitting on a FORTUNE right now! The reason I say this is that an expensive house back then just broke $120k. $120k? HO ho ho ho saint farging NICK~! These days, despite the meltdown, you can't touch those 3000 square foot palaces for less than$200k!

That running trail, that old railroad track that goes past the Redskins training camp? That's a huge selling point in my regard. I run 6 miles per day most days, and that trail would be a big draw to me! Ashburn is great. I think they have a Pubix there?

[the Redskins players are certainly strong, but when I encountered them on the trail I was never all that impressed- I bet I'd run most of them right into the ground.]

N!

Why would you ever want to go to Europe when there is so much more to see in the States??
Europe gets old after you have lived there for 40+ years 8>)

Congrats on your nuptuals.

Congrats John!

When you where in Murrren, did you happen to make it to the top of the Schilthorn?

The 007 restaurant at Piz Gloria is still my favorite in the world… nothing quite like it!

Great foto's Mr. John, did not know you got hitched.....Congrats also on the marriage!!

Danglerb, finally made it back on here after talking with you on SoCal, been too busy. In answer to your post; "A 928 in Europe would be sweet, but I think its a treat few of us will ever enjoy." One never knows hehe, but telling you from experience and also possible John will back me up here, there is nothing like it! I am completing much work on my 2 S4's, was going to immediately sell one, but may hold off until May to enjoy her for 1 month when my wife arrives. The roads here in Italy, Germany, France, Monaco, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia etc were made specially for the Porsche (One would think). Speeds in the lower part of Europe here are more abound unlike places like USA & UK where there is much enforcement. Here in Italy, the Italian/German supercars rule the strades and people are very courteous on the highways and for the most part move over to let you by without even having to flash lights. I know in Italy in particular where I am located since speeds can be up there, the local strade Polizia patrol with Lambo's hehe. My desire is to be pulled over by one then a foto shoot hehe. I can get out of the citation easily, so this not a problem....but to have a nice car that turns people's heads no matter where you drive and fantastic. Even had a couple of times Polizia pull me over just to look at the car!
