blowback through airflowmeter

I am putting a 32v in my holden race car, have twin msd, headers, remote oil system, etc.I lunched a cam bearing recently and upon installing new head etc i had the local agent set up the cam timing for me.At idle it seems fine but then from about1200rpm i get backfiring which leaves at about 2000rpm and the monster then clears.I tried to do an engine flush today to give lifters etc a bit of a birthday but the bloody thing would not run for me and it appears to be blowing stuff OUT of the airflow meter.Any ideas on what i have stuffed or should do?
