Why is it so hard to resist taking a poke at 911 owners?

Couple weekends ago I met a nice fellow Porsche owner, sweet car too, 76 911 turbo very well setup. We are talking Porsche, and one of the teenagers present commented on it being air cooled, and I couldn't help but add, "yup, same as a lawnmower"

I suppose a bit of friendly rivalry is healthy.

I always say, little heavy in the ass end like my wife...

It's like a brotherly rivalry. I can pick on my brother or even kick his arse, but if someone else messes with him, they have to answer to me.

911= The little brother we all want to pick on...

Air cooled

Come on now folks...Air cooling can be cool, not only does VW do it but Cessna does it as well. One less system to worry about can be a good thing. We are all P car people and our differences are not as important as our similarities. We all strive for parts that cost too much and we all have the same crest on the hood. If not for the Air cooled, Porsche would have gone under. The same can be said of the Water cooled. I have a few air cool friends and their expertise in general mechanics can be really helpful. They watch out for WC stuff for me and I watch for AC stuff for them. There are a lot shared components between the two such as Fuel injection, Ignition, and much, much, more.

It seems strange to me that there should be the dividing line amongst us when we can work so well together. That said...yea...I jibe em a little now and then. As long as it is all in good fun. We are all big boys after all..

Air Cooled Porsche folks...Be nice to one today.

No kidding,
There are no more air cooled cars produced by Porsche I remember when I got my first 928, I took it to the local mechanic and he said, "Why didn't you get a 911??" Needless to say, I found a new mechanic

Water cooled are just a fad!!! The Air cooled people are hoping that the rest of the world will get over it. Can't people see that Air cooled is the way to go for all purists? The sound. The handling. All classic. True Porsche. There IS something to be said for that point of view. The AC Porsches are sweet rides.

Yea, it is tough sometimes. My brother, (who has taken quite a shine to the 924S and is going in with me on a 928) When I first told him why the 911 and 914 people on my block gave him a look like "there goes the neighborhood" when he drove by with my car and waved, he was a little confused. "aren't they all Porsches?"

Now, has taken to terms as "oh, he is an air cooled guy". Not to be derogatory, but to indicate there is a difference. He still waves and smiles. He just doesn't expect them to wave back anymore. In the months he was driving my car around, he was able to tell AC from WC porsches simply by who waved back. Go figure.

Nothing wrong with having the bro's live together. Hate having relatives separated.

The debate trundles on, but I have found that the air and wated cooled cars suffer from the same problem in these debates.

If you check it out, you will find that the wing nut behind the wheel is a little loose on both models.

Is it because waterpumpers have taken the brunt of critisism and jokes from the air-cooled cult? I own versions of each and appreciate each car for what it is and what my fantasies are for that car. The 911 will remain the icon until Porsches mega production of SUVs conjure that to be the image of what a Porsche is. Yeah, just wait. God help us.
