Gear Oil
I know I have seen this post before but I can't find it. Please show me were it is or we can start a new thread on it. I have a 5 speed 1980 us model and am going to put new gear oil. "CHOOSES" there is alot. I have a liter of 75w 140syn Mobil 1 it looks good and in some stuff surpasses standards but one thing is missing and I don't know what it is (Hypoid oil) what is it

I have a 78 5 speed w/LSD and I just replaced whatever the PO's had in there with Swepco 80-90 and am quite pleased. It seems a bit quieter overall and my shifts into second are much improved, especially when cold. Still not a crisp and modern gearbox by any stretch of the imagination but much better than before. |

When it comes to oil, pick your personal poison.
I have always used Redline in manual transmissions, but I forget what the mix is for the LSD 928 of plain 75w90 and 75w90NS. |

Sure test, jack up the rear and turn one wheel by hand and see if the other goes the same.

Does the LSD use any type of additive in the gear oil or an LSD specific oil like American cars with posi rears?

It depends on the oil. Swepco says you don't need to use a friction modifier for LSD's with their oil, but you'd need to check the manufacturers recommendations.
