summer project

im not going into the nitty gritty details on this but here goes.

i plan on buying a 1958-1967 vw bug shell. chop the roof down and chop the body down. this get me that nice hot rod look and allow me to bolt a seat to the subframe instead of having it stick 4in in the air to look over the dashboard!

then i want to gut the entire interior of the shell to build a concield roll bar. then have that welded to a custom subframe.

i have a junk yard in austin that will supply me the entire 4corner suspension and transaxle cage from a 928 for $650. i just need to source my oun manual transaxle :|

anyways then i plan on taking the vw porsche hybrid and throw a aluminum chevy v8 that will pump 600hp to the crank and bolt it to the transaxle with a conversion kit.

so what i need to know is:
how much is a manual 928 transaxle?
where can i pick up the transaxle?
what modifications do i have to do to it to hold 600hp?
where do i buy the conversion for a bolt on chevy v8?

just beacuse i know you guys are going to ask.
i want a badass street rod project to build in the summer. and i was like the vw bug is a cheap car that is easily available and i can pick up for FREE then i want to cut it down, just because i like the look and i want a hot rod car! so i was like i have the body, frame and roll cage set up, but what suspension to use. a quick drive to the junk yard and i saw the 928 as the easiest bolt in to a roll cage setup! now i want a lot of horsepower that is decently cheap. and i have a little mom and pop shop that can custom build me 600hp out of a chevy v8 at a decently good price.

with everything else planned for a mid engine i just need to know more about the transaxle. i know the 928 was setup for 400hp, but can it handle 600hp to the crank minus the 10% friction force so about 540hp to the rear wheels? if it can't what modifications do i need put into the transaxle?

and where the hell do u find a manual transaxle? because i refuse to use a automatic!

theirs my basic idea.
but i want the roof to be lower and the body to be cut down about 4 more inch. basically to lower the c/g and give it a nice look with a lower roof!

Rots of ruck, no manual 928 tranny will handle 600 hp. Time for the Victor wrench and a slow walk around the bone yard.

Actually what you want isn't from a 928, you need the stuff the 914 guys use in a Chevy swap, the 930 or G50.

stock G50 will handle the 600hp and if you're using the back seat for the engine then this is the preferred setup

Sorry guys I did my last reply in my brothers account

Thanks for the links

Yes iam going to have my engine in the back seat and leave the transaxle bolted the normal way. For my cooling system since the bug is technically a fast back I'm going to modify the aerodynamics to create a low pressure zone in the deck lid and have the radiator were the vw engine is suppose to be.
