Basic Maintenance Info? Can ANYONE help?

Hi,

Finding it very difficult to locate any maintenance articles on the 928. I have searched for 2 hours on the net now to try and find out how to change the transmission fluid on a 79 928 and I cant find it. Last week I was looking for a Vacuum diagram again no joy. The same week i was looking for the firing order and plug lead locations you guessed, yep no joy. There looks to be plenty of people talking about all different stuff but very few who know how to do it.

If I go into the 911 forum' s its full of people who forward links to articles that work and are detailed.

There must be a place where this basic info is?

Does anyone know?

Here, these should keep you busy for a while.

Tony's site, the second from the top, addresses tranny fluid change. It's for an S4, so not sure the differences (if any) with a 79.

As for the vacuum diagram, get the PET cataloge. It used to be on the Porsche website. I would link mine but I can't find it. Also, get the CD version of the workshop manuals - must have. Roger at ************ carries them for a small fee compared to the paper version $$$.

Hope this helps. Others will chime in soon...

Vacuum diagrams start on page 27, both Euro and US versions listed:

You need a set, really two sets of the factory Work Shop Manuals, Roger at ************ can help you out with a CD copy (the good one, not the ebay ripoff), and you can take your time finding a set of printed manuals, or print from the CD as needed.

Anyone know the difference between the manuals that can be downloaded off the UK site and the one's Roger sells? (other than $$$)

The UK manuals are pictures, images taken from a microfiche, and bit blurry. The UK site has a monthly bandwidth limit, so manuals are not always available, a "better" source is to locate the bit torrent version.

Roger has the Jim Morehouse CD's that were scanned from print, and OCRed to searchable text within .pdf files. They also have MANY more manuals including all the special service manuals in the second CD set. Contents are sharp enough to blow up into large format diagrams for wiring etc.

Most of the "other" manuals found on ebay or craigslist are stolen copies of one of the above sources. Ebay listings (of CD's) should be reported using the link at the bottom of the ebay page as copyright violation, bootleg or counterfeit, CDR media. Craigslist use the flag menu on the top right of the listing, and select prohibited.
