Need some help here on an 82
Ok I was refered to this forum from another. I have an 82 928 that I bought cheap cause the PO tried to change the timing belt and ended up with the motor out and unable to remove the counterweight. Car sat for two years in his garage. Anyway I got the factory manuals and have reinstalled the motor and started it today. Here are my problems.
I need some detailed pics from underhood of a similar engine so I can route all cables in a factory style. I also have two wires coming off the drivers side fender well just behind the strut tower. One has a 3 prong clip style plug and the other is a round 2 pin plug. They are both very greasy so I imagine that they used to run underneath? Yellow wires (didn't look at the stripes) in both plugs. they are probably 3 feet long after they break from the fender. Anybody know what these are and where they go? Send pics to vdubr@msn.com Also where do the two heat sheilds for the exhaust bolt up? Thanks Carl |
Pic's of the items in question would be helpful. If the 2 pronged plug sounds like the brake wear sensor harnes. Usally a rubber housing aprox 1.5 X.5 inch connector solid with 2 spade male terminals protruding. Attaches on the rear of the shock housing. Depnding on the connectior ( Pics neded ) the second mat be the fluid level sender connector for the brake master. Usally a thin flat black connector with female connectors and a small protruding clip on either end of the terminal side of the connector. I hope this helps but pics

Here are some pics of an 81 Euro Engine. If your's is a US, it will have a different fuel injection system.

Hi Carl, Welcome to the forum.
Do Not Paint Your Cam Gears Green, Leo's motor is for illustration purposes only. ;) Looks like we need to revive those old vacuum line threads. |
|
Thanks Leo, That's close, I got few done up, but there are a few I'm still lost on, for example, where does the hose ON TOP of the distributor go?
The car is idling strong, but stalls when I give it gas, Mike you know what's going on? |
Here is some pics of the connectors in question. Car is driving now. Took a while to get the fuel pump to clear out all the gummies from the old gas then it started right up. Put about 30 miles on it today. Need to adjust the throttle cable for the trans and since this is a Mercedes trans (i have an auto) there should be a vacuum line going to it and I can't find it. Symptom is hard shifts.
Here is what looks like it would be a TPS connector but I have no TPS (US 82) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1242435351.jpg Here is what might be a CPS but again... No CPS on my car http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1242435384.jpg Here is a metal vacuum line that I would think should feed the tranny modulator but it goes to behind the air box and stops there I can't find anything that might go here where does yours go? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1242435466.jpg Here is a pic of the engine bay. This car looked a whole lot different on tuesday when I still had the motor on a stand with no timing belt in it. Not bad for never having worked on a Porshce before. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1242435538.jpg Oh one more thing. I have a big red light in the cluster and a smaller one in the center console that have a big I on them. They are lit constantly and I have this buzzer that goes off all the time. All systems appear normal. Good pressure, Voltage, Tempurature What Gives? How do I find the problem? Also that Vacuume diagram is not right for my car. My war up regulator is not electric. I have the AFC injection engine. |
That metal line is what goes to a vacuum line to your tranny. Yes, this is exactly why you have hard shifts. I actually blocked that line to make sure I have 3 good speeds. It was hard to tell when my car was running so bad. Hard line will feed to a crumbled vac line to another hard line that is above your torque tube then to another crumbled vac line to the tranny (pass side), you will see there where it connects to. I don't remember seeing either one of those 2 connects, but I have an 81 Euro with CIS (like the 79 US). Hope this helps.

That's what I figured on the metal line. I can get that sorted out now. Need to go to napa and buy about 10 feet of vacuume line. LOL
Is it possible that my car is wired for TPS and CPS even though I don't need them? Car runs without them. They were e-taped to the fender wall when I bought the car. The "I" Light went out when I pushed the console button and hasn't come back on. The buzzing is from a relay in the center console under where the radio would go. Any Idea what this relay does? It's obviously fried. Still can't find the one clyinder miss but I'm hanging it up for the day. Maybe even the weekend. I've been on it for 4 days. |
Sometimes taking a break is when we do the best thinking. Your close now. Closer than you were yesterday.
