Steering Rack
I noticed the power steering rack on my '78 5 speed 928 needs boots. Upon closed inspection I also noticed a slight amount of ATF seepage/sweat . Is a slight amount of seepage/sweat normal & if not, can the rack be resealed without removing it from the car? Many thanks.

I'd say no to both. Your best bet would be to pull it, replace the reservoir, low pressure (rubber) hoses and replace the seals or just replace the rack with a rebuilt unit. While you're at it you might want to go with the solid bushings.

I'd rebuild the pump as well, its cheap, and not very hard to do. I used the kit from www.rennbay.com . Early pump 78/84 I got from http://www.mailordercentral.com/928intl/prodinfo.asp?number=928%20347%20921%2000
Make sure you get the one for the type of pump you have, one says 78/84, the other 82+ so could be some overlap. PS reservoir I bought right here at Pelican. |

Looks like I might need a new rack also.
Does any one know of a rebuild kit? What would I ever do without a project ![]()
