what does a porksn'r (or however it's spelled) upgrade cost anyway?

So my '87 is rapidly nearing the TB/WP service and I find myself mulling over the porksioner thing. What does this upgrade cost and where is the exact site to order it from?

Link at bottom of webpage will tell you where to buy from. It's 928RUs I believe.

As was recently mentioned in a thread here, it's about $400. Well worth it for peace of mind.

porkentensioner is a replacement for the factory tensioner.

it eliminates the need for constant monitoring and adjustment as it put the correct tension on the belt all the time. it is a modern belt tensioner now used on anything from autos to diesel truck engines. no more maintaining correct oil levels or belt tensions. just put it on and forget it.

the porkentensioner (mounting plate) is about $130 or so, available exclusively from Roger Tyson (928srus)......however, you must also use the Audi A6 tensioner, lever and pulley. These parts are available from Roger as well, or online from various vendors---shop around, as prices vary wildly. I found a vendor in Baltimore that beat everyone's prices by a long way, and free shipping.

if you just install the porkentensioner plate, tensioner, lever and pulley, you can get this done under $500. if you need to replace gears, belt and other items, the price obviously goes up.

Factory tensioner needs checking at 1000 miles and replacing at 60,000. Not very forgiving if you screw up though.

I just put one of these on this weekend. I don't see why everyone doing a T-belt change doesn't buy one.

Well, I think it's an awesome idea. But on the other hand, I couldn't afford to tack on another $500 to the project. $500 vs the $10 Rubber Cap and Clamp the Original Tensioner needed, it was an easy decision for me.

Economic times means Economic decisions

It's really more like $300 in parts.

Danglerb 05-28-2009 10:25 AM

Thats $300 I could spend on motor bling. ;)

I installed the pkensioner recently and have the factory tensioner for sale, rebuilt, if anyone needs one. $150 + shipping.

I think it is a very good upgrade and I recommend it. It would be nice if there was a way to incorporate the belt tension warning system, though, for piece of mind.

Russ,
if you wouldn't mind letting me know about that baltimore distributor I would appreciate it. I am going to go this route, mostly for piece of mind as I intend on making my '87 a daily driver so I can park the Volvo when its nice out. The '88 will be going up for sale very soon, just so y'all know. you can email me at artikulieren@gmail.com (I see you've got privates off)
