seats

i want to put in aftermarket seats in my 928. i dont like the power seats so i want to put in the regular sliding and reclining seats. i know i need a new mount and seat. i found some seats i like, but i dont know the dimensions of the stock mount so i can get one that will fit the car and the new seat. can anyone tell me the dimensions or maybe the make and model of a mount that will fit any or most seats?

Talk to the manufacturer and tell them its for a Porsche, if they don't know 928, Porsche is likely close enough. There isn't any standard way of measuring seats that I know of, or really a need.

Good idea to tell us which model 928 you have and what seats you are thinking about.

Just check with Sparco that the model you want fits in a Porsche, and they will know exactly what you need. For example, says 911/44/ etc. but should be fine in a 928, but worth checking.

why not just install early manual 928 seats? they'll bolt right up, or you could go with sport seats

I think the early manual seats are hard to find, especially in halfway decent condition. Last time I looked at 928 International all they had were power seats.

I bought a pair locally, takes some turning over rocks, but around $100 to $150 for kinda rough, but ok for track use. Brendan was thinking about another set the guy had, but decided on a real race seat I think. Let me know if you want some old manual seats and I will point you at the guy.

Yeah, no way I'd go with regular seats if you're going to using the car mainly for track duty, they just are not as safe with a harness. Spend the money for decent racing seats.

If the car does spend some time on the street its not very easy talking your way out of a ticket sitting in a Sparco with a 5 way harness.

I'd take my chances with that over counting on a factory seat and a five point to save my ass in a nasty off track excursion.

Last guy that died out at WSIR, word is he had some narrow harness setup using stock seats. He came out.

Go for the safety gear or don't, but don't do it halfway, it's more dangerous than stock.

Having said all that, the original poster never did say what the car was being used for so that may all be irrelevant. Just keep in mind that track style safety gear is designed to work as a system.

the car is just to drive around. not a track car. so im not needing the 5 point saftey harness. but i really do like the racing seat look and might drive my car on a track every now and again. i dont like my stock seats, the are damaged and the motors are way too slow. i like the manual better. so, i wanted manual racing seats that look real nice, i just didnt know the dimensions of the seat mounts so i knew for sure the bolt holes would line up.

How it usually works is that the seats have bolt pattern X and the car has bolt pattern Y, so you just buy the XY mounting rack that the seat maker sells.
