Problem with hatch closing
 

as the title states i have a problem with the hatch closing. actually, it doesnt close at all. i can push down all i want, but withing 1/2 a second it will pop back up. i have tried sanding the little plastic grabber thingy back down to where it will have an edge to catch on, but that didnt work either. i also tried looking online for some, but i couldnt find any. if any of you guys have any links, tips blah blah blah's about how to make the dang hatch shut, it would be greatly appreciated.SmileWavy

What happens when you really "slam" it?

6' bungee cord from rear wheel well to wheel well.

New hatch receiver.

New hatch receiver insert from Roger.

Isn't that Roger insert just a guide? Seems to me that their not adjusted correctly. Try loosening the Allen bolts and adjusting the lock and receiver.

try hatch lid adjust plate closer to you ur barely catching if slam and banging your hittin it so youd have to adjust away from you. same with bottom allen screws adjust its all aligning. if you ask me its not permenant over time this or that plates gonna slide just enough that u get bang or pop up no mattr how tight you tighten.

the plastic hook that compresses spring could wear too over all its misses i just thought of something too when i said spring the spring may not be springing anymore and not making it come back all the way its not high enough to catch anymore thus us all slamming harder and harder maybe add washers to allen bolts compensate for spring.

sometimes even key unlocking the key wont turn without pushing down on lid while turning key

then theres the wiper motor bolt it has to be within in the pivoting mount on car or will hit, have to pick the wiper up and move it about tll bolt is inside slot.

I can gently close my hatch, and then push down with a couple fingers and it clicks and locks. When the insert get old, shrinks, and starts to break apart, the latch stops working.

Complete new receiver or try the insert from Roger.

Hmm, my insert is almost disintegrated and it still closes and locks fine. Maybe I'm on borrowed time?

Why not just make it out of glow-in-the-dark rubber?

I was thinking about lining the insides of my headlights with this stuff so that they will glow for a while after I turn them off. This will drive all the Honda kids wild. What's more, with a little creativity, I could rig them to stay up with the switch off and then I could save the last couple miles worth of electricity.

check the fuse (s) for the hatch release, it may have blown.
Then the release portion wont stop in the locked position, there might be an inline fuse near the hatch release motor, and there is also one in the fuse panel.
The one on the fuse panel is a 1 amper they are hard to find a 3 amp or 5 amp could be used till you get the one amper.
Also clean the wire contacts of the hatch motor they could be dirty.

Once the fuses are working then have a helper pull the hatch release, while you see how it works, the female part should press into the male section then retract.
If this is not happening then you may have to readjust the motor arm so it resets in the correct position this takes a 10mm wrench.
Also there is a height adjustment for the motor these may also have to be adjusted, to full pressure into the male portion. 2 (10mm bolts on the front side of the hatch motor support)

forgot to add when the hatch button is pulled then the motor should make one full revolution then come back to its stopped position . the 2 bolts will adjust for this.

The fuse working will make the motor cycle,
If the fuse is blown then the motor will only work while while the switch is pulled, once released then it will stop = blown fuse

They have hatch releases on 82's?

Started in 84 I think. Unless the model is in the sig hard to keep track.
