4.5 to 5.0
I was just wondering (no plans to do it)
Would replacing the block from a 4.5 with a later 5.0 block, just block not heads, change the displacement to 5 liters? I'm sure someones probably done this. I was just wondering because I have a 91 complete engine lying around... I'm more than likely going to just sell the 91 engine because the 4.5 only has 48k on it... But still curious if power would increase..... |

Your S4 block would be a MESSY and expensive swap, but a hybrid motor with an early Euro top end would drop in quite nicely, and to any but a very experienced eye look entirely stock and pass smog.
A stock early (80 to 83 CIS) Euro S motor would also work, but using the larger bore of the 100mm 5.0L 85/86 block works best. What makes it simple is you keep the same style of injection that is already in the car. Many of the Euro S parts are different, so before you order up replacements you should decide on the direction you want to go in. I know the WUR is different, not sure on the fuel distributor, which I think is the same for all cis 928. |
