fuel pump
i just found out the hard way my 78 has 2 fuel pumps...my 2nd pump in the pass' side wheel well just gave out on the way home...i limped home...but its screaming its head off
is the 2nd pump the same as the one by the fuel tank?..i will need to order one |
As far as I can see in the early cars (pre-82) pdf from Porsche, they're different.
There are three different fuel pumps found on early cars, in combinations. The early 78's I think don't have an in-tank pump? (Looks like '79s do tho') The different fuel pumps I can see are: 911 608 102 00 928 608 013 00 (in-tank pump) 930 608 113 00 Go to the "Service" part of Porsche's website and follow the links for parts catalogues to find same - the diagram is a mess for that page because of the massive variation between those first few years. |
You could probably put a metal tube in place of that fender fuel pump until you have the funds to get another. As stated in my fuel related posts. I gutted my "In-Tank" pump, so it's really just a pass through tube now. I have been running with a single pump now for months.
I believe I read somewhere it was put there to prevent "hydro locking," so I figure I just need to make sure it has plenty of fuel and never let it run low. Anyways, just some real world experience. |
pump question
...my old girl is down for the count right now..untill i replace the fenderwell pump, and hoses that go to it and from it...soon as i touched them..they cracked im going to have the old end fitting put on new lines and crimped at NAPA...done this before...cheaper than finding the nos factory hoses
anyone have a used fenderwell pump for sale?..i dont have the funds for a new one right now...i would be happy to buy a used one bosch # 930 608 113 00 MPDano...i tried to do what you said, just put a line in there and delete the pump untill i have funds for new one......it wont run without it?... why wont it run with just one pump?....i tried to prime it with some gas (thinking air in the lines)........it fires up...but slowly dies out...and wont restart |
That's strange as I seriously am running with only a single pump. Are you sure your pump next to your filter is a CIS one? They almost look the same except they have a longer neck on them.

Maybe the primary pump is on the way out also.
