84 euro no 5th gear and hard shifting
The car is an 84 euro S that I got as a non-runner with shifting issues. After a little effort I got the engine running well enough and I’m onto the transmission.
The guy I bought it from had the tranny replaced with and 85/86 G28/11 and said that it had worked fine for him, then he had a short shifter installed and after that it didn’t shift right. He said it eventually got stuck in 1st gear and that’s why he parked it. So to try and eliminate any potential problems I put the standard shifter back in today. Now I can get reverse and 1st almost normally, 2nd and 3rd are not too bad and 4th barley and no 5th. I pulled the rear coupler and it appears to be fine. See photo. I then adjusted it with the wife holding the gearshift. So I think that is ok. I’ve also checked the front ball cup. I can rock it side to side but not front to back, which I believe is the way it supposed to be. Please correct me if I’m wrong on that. If I have the shifter adjusted correctly (I could be wrong) what is the likely culprit. Are there any other external adjustments that can be made on the tranny? Are there any little things in the linkage that should have been swapped when whoever replaced the tranny may have missed? Or is the tranny shot? Thanks

Maybe have your wife shift or try to shift it while you observe the linkage from below?
Only two things I can think of, external shift linkage is binding or blocked in some way, or something inside the tranny is fubar. |
