no pic just descript 2pks of lifesavers in eng comp LOL

82 us in eng comp right hand side 2 silver cylinders like pack of life saver lookin just beside top edge of radiator WHAT ARE THESE AND DO WHUT? *NOTE CALLING THEM LIFE SAVERS not rolaids, CAUSE THATS WHAT YOU ALL ARE LIKE A LIFE SAVER , YUM.

I have a head (ache) light issue everything normal working popup no on both sides relay, fuses, fender well grounds, eng compartment grounds, fuse panel grounds, bulbs, switch, motor all good. what contact could i be missing on? worked fine all time starting skipping out having to turn on off couple times then over weeks half dozen times then none for couple weeks now in getting into passionately of course at relay they happen to have come on that freak one more time relay test?

I CAN PIC JUST WORKING ON THEM AND DARKNESS FALLS QUICK NOW NO MORE LIGHT LEFT TODAY.

the silver rolls are ballast resistors for the ignition system.
I am not sure what your problem with the headlights is.......
. That said sometimes removing the headlight relay and cleaning the contacts inside it will restore operation of the headlights

lfausty 10-10-2009 10:03 AM

will do, is there a bypass the relay test to turn head lights on, jump numbers?

having no sign of them on at all last dozen times they pulled a freak on,again today. like they could stay on forever snapped right up strong clicked right on light shiny perfect no weakness in bulb or jumpyness to light perfect high beam strong low beam strong *to note was click 2 and didnt come on clicked switch to first pos and back to 2nd and they came on just the freak one more time though. now off again

can i jump relay im sure it is relay screwing wit me

Mrmerlin 10-10-2009 12:32 PM

no jumping this relay will damage the wire harness, if your having problems its best to clean the relay first. Remove the relay and remove its cover then with a piece of 600 grit sandpaper clean the contacts then smell if for burning, and look for melted connections inside the relay then put it back together

lfausty 10-11-2009 04:19 PM

first clean retry got a light up once cleaned again thinking maybe im close just needed more clean light up again once either third times a charm or absolutey certain power going in but not coming out-- -- i dont think one of the coils is carrying the load out therefore new relay? no obivous sign dirty or burnt look/smell to it one outer side tab/plug was wiggly broken away from solder and its glue reflowed the solder arm and put dab of glue back at tab to strengthen contact and pushing it in and out of panel but just cant get it to a fixed state.

i would check the wire connectors along the bottom of the CE panel first..
Make sure that the wires are fully seated in each connector,.
On the early cars you can dislodge the metal connectors out of the connector housing by not putting the colored connectors on the correct way. Remedy is to pull off the conector and rebend the locking tab then reinsert into the connector housing The part you want to look at is the colored connectors along the bottom of the CE panel)
If these are all good then you might have to replace the headlight relay, it is expensive

lfausty 10-11-2009 05:01 PM

what letter/s relate to h lights i have done these bottom connectors even taken out the long wire in this case brown so it would give the ability to flip the board up and get the bottomside of the backside cleanings and all was good working safe and job completed, coarse added to many hrs total.

and at any specific issue that takes me back there for recheck on specific letter so here i am again what letter for headlight? as to not go through all and spend concentrated time on the related. would i be close to saying N ? not pos its a 82us

Mrmerlin 10-11-2009 07:08 PM

The connector check is for you to check all of the connectors.
With a drop light shine the light so you can see the back sides of all if the connectors, if any of the wires are pushed out you will see them,
If so then simply make a diagram where the wire goes then unplug it from the board, slide out the bent connector then re bend the lock tab push back into place then refit the connector to the bottom of the front of the CE panel.

l', how do you know the relay is good. Have you tried another?

lfausty 10-13-2009 05:36 PM

I DONT KNOW RELAY GOOD OR NOT they just got turned on like normal and didnt light--- IM DOING GROUND AND WIRE CLEANING RELATED RECHECKING --- HAVE PUT SPARE HEADLIGHT SWITCH IN. BOTH TIMES WITH 2 DIFFERENT SWITCHES GOT A FREAK LIGHT UP ONCE EACH SWITCH , while wiggling and press and relay clicking away, switches dont seem the problem

both headlights are out so doesnt seem like connection problem

headlight motor is coming all the way up and lights are at the stoppers

i didnt just go ahead and purchase another relay checking things first and wondered if theirs a relay test to check if relay good, did take apart and clean contacts, still no light, so will put another relay in IF WORKS YEAH!

if not, prob go back to headlight motor but down they dont come on, a good thing, and up they should but dont ,so i dont think anything is backward there or malfunctioning whatever is suppose to tell them to come on when they get to the position to light isnt happening relay? motor? switch? wire?

Mrmerlin 10-13-2009 10:13 PM

Lisa, i really do not understand what your problem is...
But is one or both of the headlights are not coming on i would also check the harness where it meets the chassis just under each headlight, this is where the wires break for the headlights, you have to remove the front wheels to see the underside of the headlights

lfausty 10-17-2009 07:43 AM

While waiting for the relay -- checked and did all the proposed IT WAS RELAY YEAH!!
THANKS and THANKS AGAIN

One test option for Relay's is to make a jumper wire (aprox 2in/1cm) with male connectors to bridge the appropriate two pins/slots of the Relay socket. You are esentially directly connecting the hot connections in lieu of low voltage relay triggered from some switch.

Pull the Relay out of socket gently then insert the two ends in the slots -- I believe 15 - 30. check if the circut now works. Relay diagram & pin #'s are on the relay, well most of the time.

This works great for fuel pump, starter relay, fans...

Warning do not jumper the headlight relay, it is a compound relay and if you dont know exactly what your doing you will possibly fry a part or all of the wiring
