why does the in and out matter??
I dont know for sure but my guess would be the top line out of the block is the hot line and the lower connection is return.
FYI dont try to unscrew the fittings in the block. ( counter hold them to remove the lines) what happens is that they have been green loctited in and when they are unscrewed then a portion of the sealing area cracks off of the block then it will not have a smooth surface to seal when refitting

It doesn't matter. I think it comes out the bottom but the cooler wont care.
The design of the system is really good, the thermostat only sends oil to the cooler when hot and the pressure bypass valve means all flow needn't go through the cooler so you don't have to run big lines. I run -8 lines to a cooler and it works nicely. Do you need AN adapters for the block?

Edit: MMerlin posted while I was typing. I would believe what he says over me! The oil must surely come out the top fitting, all I know is whenever I look at the parts I get confused and wind up flopping on the floor like a fish :-)
