Theres already a write up on the Delco Swap with nothing but good results. Also, my local 928 buddy did it in his 79 928 with the same great results. I shoulda just followed him, but really wanted to try and make this work.

well I got tired of trying to find a delco that was bigger then the bosch that I took off.
So I bit the bullet and bought the 200amp. just over $700 with shipping. that hurt:eek:

It would suck to find out that the grounds were bad after spending all that dough.

I just bought a Bosch factory rebuilt unit to replace my 86. Its 115A. Cost $257. Got it from Advance Auto, next morning delivery. (would have been less expensive from my normal source, but I needed it in hours). Wife and daughter got stranded in Va Beach. Got a call at night, two of them stuck in stop and go traffic for miles on entrance to a tunnel, with all dash lights flashing --- I knew this was alternator failure and hoped the battery would hold-out long enough. (Nice houses, wish one was ours, will never happen.)

FYI, this is the second time for the dash-flash deal. First time, while flashing, car running, I tapped the old Bosch twice with a hammer and heard it engage & the dash recovered. Bought us about a month. Before replacing this, after driving 3 hours with a load of tools in the other car & with the fresh alternator in a box, I repeated the tap deal with the BFH laying on the driveway --- same result. But it was time to replace, so I did that.

Also note, this alternator actually came from an 85.5 944, we had swapped it a couple years ago during an unrelated electrial witch hunt.

This is my daughter's prospective in-laws house.

It was, however, and excellent driveway to work on! Smooth finish, cool, stable.

Heck, I'll Marry the Guy if your Daughter doesn't ;)

My Sloped Driveway gives my Wife a Heart Attack every time I work under my car on it. :eek:

Ya Mal that is always in the back of my head, but with half the dash and engine apart waiting for parts, and knowing that a large stereo with 3 - 800 watt amps is on its way, I thought I could use the extra juice. there is no core so I will buy a diode/req/bng kit for the old one, rebuild it and put it on the shelf incase I need a spare sometime.

Yep, your gonna need a lot juice for all those amps. Why so much wattage?

There are going to be a lot of deaf, hearing em-pared people around from listening to car stereo's at 189 DB in their cars!:eek:
