'79 928 Purchase
I went and looked at a 1979 928 today. The owner said that he does not have the time or money for it. Has 425K Km. on it and a issue with it flooding after driving 30 miles or so. He said the car starts and runs fine but he had no battery to start it. He said he would get one if I wanted to purchase it. He said that he thinks there were issues with the fuel pump, but they are $300. I looked it over and pretty much all the hoses are dry rot and a few cracked. Body is good with original paint. Inside the seats are faded except for the leather. Carpet needs cleaned and the radio is out. Everything else is there. I am thinking $1500 - $2000 would be fair.
He wants 3800 for it. I paid less for my 86 944 and it is at least running order and just needed a paint job. How much do you guys think a decent offer is? How much to get the vehicle to run? |

Where is it? Where you from? CIS and Flooding doesn't sound good right off the bat. He's off his rocker for wanting $3800 for it. Since we don't have any pics of it, it's real hard to put a $ amount on it. Sounds like a $1000 car to me.

Not that my car is concours or anything, but... 264k and unknown mechanicals ...kinda sounds more like a parts car to me. $3800 is ludacris.
Even with the cost of shipping to Alaska, you might do better looking in the pacific northwest (closer to Alaska), for a driver with a known history. That being said, I guess you gotta follow your heart. I paid $2300 for a driver with some issues (no A/C, bad window lift etc). More info and pictures would help. -Kerry |

My $1,100 928 94 Euro S - some minor electrical issues, all fixed now, and major interior rework -
most parts replaced - and i'm into it for less that $2500 total right now, repaint coming up - then i'm done - so look around - this is way to much for a disaster ! By the time i'm finished i will still be under $4k

Leo, remember this car is going to my daughter - Earl Scheib in Escondido did my last 2 cars - my 914 and a 79 MG midget, so he will get to do this one as well! He does a lot of the local rods, and does a good job. I'll be taking it to them in about 2 weeks, so you can check out the paint job on mine!
