Ball joint blow up
Right ball joint on' 83 28 broke in my friends driveway. Ball joint completly severed as the rubber broke. Has any one tried the rebuild kits. I heard they save time and don't require the control arm to be removed which I hear can be a pain. Is this true?

so what ball are you talking about upper or lower??
If its the upper them Motorsports sell rebuild kits if the lower then just buy the steel version and replace it . If your lower joint failed then you will also need atleast one new eccentric along with the joint to effect repair

for the lower part you just buy a new BJ
and remove 2 19mm nuts to install it along with a new eccentric talk to your parts seller to confirm what you need

Yea but that could cost a lot if your married
![]() I just changed both of mine and rebuilt the uppers with the 928 motorsports kit pretty easy to do just had a problem on one side were the pin was seized in to the spindle. Found out my car had been hit because all the passenger side stuff was the new style spindle vs the driver side and the older style spindle.

To get the lower ball joint off you might have to use a special puller. Don't use the fork, it just messes things up and may not work. Save yourself time and frustration and borrow a puller from the auto parts store. Takes less than a minute to separate the BJ with it; not kidding either, less than a minute. Looks like a standard for, except it has a third piece that screws down on top of the BJ "pin" and pushes it out.

Not sure if the sizing is correct but Harbor Freight sells a very similar tool for $20.

Must be nice. NOTHING on my 928 has wanted to come off easily; everything seems to be welded into place and is a huge PIA to get off- rear cam seals, pinion on steering rack, ball joints, etc., etc.
