stupid question.... i have a list of more important things to tackle, but here's a small little thing that's been bugging me.

the turn signal (left or right) doesn't reset itself after i turn the wheel and make the turn. so after i signal and make the turn, i manually have to turn my blinker off. Is this a quick fix? If not, then I'm not going to worry about it. I just thought I'd ask.

Mine does the same thing. I just stick my arm out the window instead.

It is probably the spring set screw that is located in the steering column at the end of that lever assembly. you can take the springs out and clean them up and reinstall them and it might work or if the springs are too weak to bring it back to the correct position then replace the springs with new ones. Hope that helps

I just took my steering wheel off to restitch the leather, and noticed that there is a plastic lug that could potentially get brittle and snap off which may reset the turn signals. Removing the wheel isn't a big deal, so it might be worth a look. When the manual says "Pull off the horn cover" it means lever it really really hard like you are about to break it - then it pops off. From there it's one nut to get the wheel off - be careful around the horn cable (Tape it with insulation tape to stop it shorting) and the brass ring around the base of the wheel assembly.

From what I remember, all that signal canceling stuff is inside the Signal Stalk. Opening that bad boy up will yield many flying springs. Ask me how I know. It's easier to just buy a good used one off eBay. That's what I did and mine cancels perfectly now.

Nope, like this one. Also, try 928 signal in your ebay search, it will yield more results. Offer this guy $60 and see what happens. Be patient as these on eBay all the time.

If the steering rack isn't centered when the front end is aligned, it can cause the one signal to turn off too soon and one to not turn off at all. i.e. don't replace the turn signal assembly until the alignment centering is checked.

There is a "tab" that sticks out of the bottom of the steering wheel that can break easily. That tab is what cancels the turn signals on the stalk. See post #4 above.

You can't really see it that well in the diagram, but there is a tab that sticks out on the left hand side of the plastic slipring that lines up with the indicator stork position once fitted.

If that tab was broken it wouldn't cancel in either direction. It is possible the steering wheel was put on misaligned but that would be too obvious. :)

Good point. Mine didn't cancel on Left turn switch. Worked fine on Right.

i took it apart and i see what everyone's talking about. The tab on the steering wheel is still there. and the tab that sticks out on when you turn on the turn signal is still there too.. but the tab on the wheel is somehow slipping past it. If I use a screw driver as my "wheel tab" i can manually get it to reset. not sure why the wheel isn't allowing it to reset. this weekend i'll take the wheel off my 944 and see if they are similar mechanisms. that may give me an idea of what the problem is on the 928.

Well, I took the wheel off the 944 and it was the same setup as the 928 and everything looked the same as the 928 (nothing on the 928 looked broken or missing, comparatively). But the 944 wheel wouldn't fit on the 928...too small.

Anyway... I figured I'd try to add a little meat to the tab sticking out from behind the steering wheel...the tab that resets the signal. I simply wrapped some electrical tape around that tab a few times to give it some girth and reinstalled. AND IT WORKS!!! I don't know how long it will last, but it works for now. Sweet.
Now where's that MacGyver image? ;)

Like I said, I bet it's the Stalk itself. Find a smokin' deal on one and switch it out.
