Relays

I have had several problems with the panel relays sticking. I noticed there are maybe 6 or 7 of the same type (53) being used and the OEM cost is about $8. One of them did go bad on me. I was able to modify one from the local parts store that worked on the Fog lights. It seems it may be worth while to at least replace all these cheaper ones and be done with it.

Replace all the cheap ones, and minimum clean all the contacts of all the relays.

H-man,
Yes with the relays good ones are best.

It is worth exploring the cause of the sticking...you do not want to go through this again. I found that I had a leak in my rear q-panel window seal as well as the hatch latch seal. These caused water inside the car at the tire well. How I found my cause...this winter I went to start and no go. Pulled the pas. carpet up and noticed condensation on the relays and sticking relays. I could jump the relays and make them work but not with the ig switch?? The front was not leaking and I was confused until I decided to look deep for the where...I have corrected the leaky old seals and replaced the hatch latch seal. Then I found that I had corrosion in the front wire harness top section at the 14 pin...

The fog lights were the ones sticking. I think because they were hardly ever used. The car has seen little water especially in the last 18 years in storage. I don't see any sign of dampness near the electric panel at all. But I think I will replace all the cheaper relays anyway.
