solid transaxle mounts for 5 speed
hello everyone, thinking on use solid trans mounts on my 82 stick 928 for the street. anyone out there have using them this way? or is this going to brake something? say like the gearbox housing ? thanks john

No, it's not going to vibrate your teeth. That's an urban myth right up there with non-rubber suspension points and motor mounts.
You may not want to run them for different reasons though. That would be if you also ran solid motor mounts and were worried about too much stress being put into the trans case and bellhousing is the entire body flexes. If you did that you'd have to be careful to tighten everything with the body not jacked up and be sure that mounts are in postion and not pulling as they are tightened. That's the same thing the WSM covers when using shims to adjust trans mounts. |
Wouldn't you "have" to run solid motor mounts if you ran a "solid" tranny mount? I would think this twisting would start weakening metal and start breaking.

The more time I spend with Porsche's the less I like changing anything from the factory, too often it bites you in the butt. |
thanks for the input guys. i'm going to give them a try, and leave the fronts stock. will keep a eye on the gear box and the bell housing. i had the trans out and after that i put a clutch in it. if i remember right there was a little "wiggle room" up and down and side to side in the enclosed drive shaft housing. will keep you posted with any new news good or bad.

I went with solid mounts in my M3 (primary function is a track car), and it is a hard ride.
