ok.... I think I found right hose... I DL'd the PET from porsche site.
part# 928 110 177 02
is that correct?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1276196955.jpg

Yes, that is the hose from AAR to Start valve. On a '79 engine there is a "T" fitting spliced in-line. The smaller T outlet has a hose go to one side of the AC valve.

The other side of the AC valve goes to a spliced in Hose fitting with Three "T's" between back of AAR and Air Box (underneath the pas side intake tubes). These (on '79 configuration) three "T's" from this splice fitting...As mentioned, front pas side goes to AC Valve, Opposite fitting goes to driv side hose to intake plenum (there is another join there) both of these hose "T" fittings are same size. The third "T" is pas side larger hose to a plastic vacuum valve (forgot the function name) that has another hose same size going to the sidewall and a small red silicon hose on top...these "T" can get brittle, 928intl has the fittings.

While you are inspecting the AAR and hoses behind it and beneath the intake tubes...look very close at the small hose underneath the AAR that comes out the water bridge behind where the Rad hose goes in. This is usually neglected and degrades and leaks, it is second rad overflow hose that joins a primary overflow hose before the overflow container (it is above the plastic vacuum valve discussed in the paragraph above).

Thanks Jon,

Does anyone have some closeup photo's of engine bay that I can reference. Also, I'm not sure if you can see in photo a braided line on left side that has a burn hole or possibly worn. What part is this so can order both at same time?

Thanks

That hose is the one I refer to and is just 30 years old...goes from back of the AAR to the Air box. It is most likely the original, if it is a metal braided hose that has a 3-T T connector in-line with the main hose such that the hose is in two pieces. The forward piece you see is accessible without removing the tubes. It is the same size as the hose you pictured just not pre-formed/bent and like the one you are showing, it is not wrapped in metal braid. It is available from 928intl # 999 239 009 40, 1meter length (you will get more than you need for both sides of the fitting). You may be able to source the hose locally by the ID...I bought the 928intl ($$ 30)

Buy the fitting # 928 110 439 00 (confirm the number on the 928 shopping page) as it will crack when you try to remove it. It is best to take the AAR off to re-fit this one and redo the 3 out hoses I discussed previously. The main run from the fitting to the air-box needs the intake tubes removed. This part of the run could wait...more to disassemble in order to do it.

I do not have photos right now...I'll try to find them and post. I replaced the hoses and fittings we are discussing.

From your engine pic there seems to be some hose where fuel line/tube should be; the one going into the front top of the plenum above the cold start valve. This appears to go into the WUR, but the WUR does not look like it is configured right!

I see the "T" sitting with a Hose from the AC valve plugged on one side...this is the T that goes in-line with the AAR to Startup valve...the one you are going to purchase. Replace it #999 137 014 40 $9.

Check all the hoses from WUR if hard and/or brittle buy and replace.

I'm sure previous owner was messing with WUR and may have hooked up wrong or moved as it is very lose and not bolted down tight. I will have more time this weekend and may be able to get hoses locally. Again, Much thanks!

The previous owner appears to have taken the whole intake off, painted it etc., and ended up selling it as does not start. You have to figure they have tried all the simple things to get it running. I would be checking everything, not fixing this or that until it sort of runs.

Actually from all that overspray, looks like he didn't even take it off. Just rattle canned it on the car. Remove the whole Spider and remove all that ugly paint off. Do it right by either using some Engine or Header paint. Some have polished theirs and it looks awesome.

Here's what I did with mine. i used Engine High Temp Wrinkle Finish Paint. I believe made by VHT.

Wow that looks awesome. We actually got it started and running for a few seconds and then it dies... You can hear several vacuum lines leaking and seem to have a gas leak, oil leak. Not sure from where. So I think taking spider off is an excellent idea. I love the pics any other assembly or re assembly pics will be very useful.

Thanks everyone. I will keep posted and add pics as I go.

The 17-character VIN standard only started in 1981. This car is a 1979.

Just an update for everyone.
I have hit a roadblock on my 928. I was waiting on title from previous owner. It seems he has been jerking me around. And as each day passes it looks bleaker that i will ever get title. He said he has to go back through import company to get paperwork. Well its been about 3 months.
I am hesitant to put any money in it till i have title.
So if anyone has any suggestions that would be great. If not i may just sell it as parts car.
So if anyone is interested let me know.

I'v used www.its-titles.com in the pase for a motorcycle and it went smoothly. I have also heard of others using www.broadwaytitle.com though I do not have any direct experience with them.

If you got a bill of sale from the owner you should be able yourself to seek the title from the DMV. Especially if it was previously registered in Tennessee, and maybe too if it came from another state. You can also go down the path of pursuing the owner for fraud and basically forcing the issue. There are several ways to do it. You wouldn't want to find out the car had "other" ownership after you sold it or its parts. No title / freeze in your tracks til you get one. But if you have BOS, you should be in excellent shape. If neither, you will need to persuade him or maybe start engaging sheriffs and the like. No nonsense approach is the only way to go on this stuff.

There's no way I'd ever buy a part from you now that you've said you don't have a title to the vehicle.

BTW, I'm from Tennessee and have cleared several titles there in past years with BOS only.
