Car portraits?

Wondering if anybody does this, or if the idea has any potential, car portraits. Professional quality pictures, done with good lighting and an artists eye, with the potential for poster sized prints. I know we have a few skilled photographers here, so tossing out the idea.

Good idea

Hello , You have a great idea. I have 24x36 posters of most of the sports cars I have owned and put them on the wall for old times sake. Many of them that picture is all that remains. I took the pictures myself and had them enlarged at the drug store when they offered a coupon or discount.
I never put any people in the pictures due to problems with the other sex as relationships changed. I paid a naked blond to pose on my 300 zx turbo way back when and guess what picture was torn off the wall first when I got married !!!

I'm working on something similar. The idea is to re-shoot the Risky Business poster and I've found a couple models who want to work with me on it, it's just a matter of me finding the time to work on the lighting, it'll need to be done outdoors and after dark and I tend to lack motivation by that time.

There are probably photographers around that will work with you on this, but most would want money and or would limit what size images they'll give you. Some are very uptight about their images being used if they aren't getting credit or money.

I wouldn't want to be in the middle, just dropping the idea out for one of the photographers to chew on. Poster sized is just one notion, including models definitely risky business, managing photo rights could be a zoo, but the 928 photographs well and more and better pictures would be good for all of us.

Lower cost high quality printing is showing up in larger and larger formats as well. Now could be a good time to try something. Maybe associated with some event so several cars could be done on the same day?

Yeah, getting a couple cars lined up for it has been in the back of my mind. Honestly I wouldn't be looking to make any money off of it right now either so I'm not as up tight about protecting the copyright as a lot of 'semi-pros' I see out there. For my idea a black car with a nice paint finish would be ideal, the paint on my car is crap but I can take care of that in photoshop. However, most people with very nice finishes would be concerned about a model's ass (no matter how nice that may be) planted on their fender for fear of a dent or scratch.

If there's anyone in the area with a car that they'd like to use that might not mind kicking in a few $$ for a model if I can't find one willing to work for trade, then I'd be glad to shoot it just to add to my book.

I did this with a group over at pcars.us, and we hired a couple of models and had them pose with our respective cars. It was fun, and the cars made the girls look even better

Jeeze. I really hope I don't hurt anyone's feelings because that is an attractive girl in everyday life, but this is southern California and there are far, far better looking girls that will work in trade for good images. I'm really not trying to sound like an ass, but I've been working on my portfolio for a year now and after you look at enough up and coming models, you get rather jaded.

From a bicycle project I was working on.

I prefer my car picts without flesh, and my flesh picts without cars, or bicycles.

Suicide girls and 928's might work ...

but

I still prefer just the 928 with some scenery.
