What about tune ups? what would I need to do so? in general. if I went through my mechanic the parts would cost much more.

Unless recently refreshed, figure at least $4000 in parts and $7-$8000 in shop labor to make it driveable. Not kidding.

Typical 87 5 spd should be worth a good sum of money, $10k or so, but the details that only a good PPI or owning it a few months would reveal could alter value by $5k or more.

A 928 can be an insane money pit if you don't know what to look for when buying one. A good PPI checks something like the top 100 repair items, most requiring expert knowledge about the 928.

The one that I bought never had the drive shaft maintained regular
That is hard on main bearings.

I documented the fix here
have you done mains with engine in car - 928 Owners Club Forums

I bought 2 tires for the rear ($400), a 200 amp alternator ($700), stereo and 6 speakers amp and sub ($2800), timing belt ($80), fuel filter, spark plugs, oil pan/ tensioner gasket, B&M shifter, Line Loc, Hoses, fuses, relays, and I still have a lot of electrical to fix, power roof don't work, pass seat don't work. But I can drive it now.

Ya they require a lot, a lot, alot of time, and a few bucks to bring them back to a reliable daily driver.

I took mine camping here

Either the seller is foolish, or looking for somebody that is, unless its a high mileage beater or some other serious issue.

Actually it's only at 132K' needs some cosmetic work the guy doesn't seem to know really about how much work these cars could need SO I might be able to get it for that price.

Its really difficult to comment, your view or the sellers view of what "needs some cosmetic work" means is hard to guess. $7k for a S4 5 spd is cheap, but not cheap enough that you could expect to buy, fix, and sell at any real profit. The last one I recall that cheap hat 150k miles and a rough interior, but mechanically was in good shape with ok paint.

My biggest question would be why is the seller offering it so cheap, and why hasn't somebody bought it.

Sounds fair for one that hasn't been maintained.
High if its been abused.

Expect to spend $5 to $7 parts only on an S4 to referesh it.

yeah I thought I got my 79 auto for a steal at $1100, but 2 years later, every second component replaced or rebuilt, complete electrical nightmare, and waiting til next paycheck to do a complete brake job. Just get one that works and you will end up actually being able to drive it.

Restoring a 928 without any paint or interior issues can easily run $15k to $20k, so maybe we should start with those figures and deduct for things that are in perfect working condition.

If you hire the work out, I agree.
But if you can afford that, what are you doing messing with these outdated cars?
Plunk the cash down for a real modern supercar.

That's a nice looking 928, pretty color, and a 5 spd, so I really doubt the seller will accept much less than the asking price, which is quite decent. Despite the looks nice, and it does look nice, somebody that really knows the 928 needs to look it over, ideally a full PPI.

I don't see this car being around long, if its even still available.

yeah me ether, but the interior as you can see is a bit tired. and it has no service history as I said. so only way to know is if I do get a PPI, AND get my tax return done lol. I've got everything I need to get going place to keep it for the next 2 years. everything priced out . it's just the only thing holding me back

Hard to tell from dealer pictures, which can carefully hide many a fault, but that interior did not look bad IMHO. Some but not much shrink on the seat, no dash damage I could see, and the rest seemed pretty clean.

Looking at 928's before your money is ready, sure formula for heart break.

I went to see it on the same day I saw the ad. a few rips in the drivers side. cracks in the dash the rear glove box lid is warped around the edges I'm hoping it isn't from a leaking hatch.
