Odometer adjustment
 

Is it legal to adjust the mileage on my odometer myself? The speedo was changed at 45,765 (I have the old odometer with the original reading) and the new speedometer now reads 13,127. The title for the car reads TRUE MILEAGE UNKNOWN (I labeled it as such when I bought and registered the car because the odo did not reflect actual mileage). Can I adjust the odometer to reflect the approximate total mileage without worrying about legality?

I don't see why it would be aproblem as long as you are not trying to represent the milage as actual. since the title already states milage unknow this is probably not an issue. with the replacement gears to fix the speedos available to the general public who are fixing their own ODOs, I don't see how this is any different.

Correct; I am not trying to represent the mileage as actual (as it has worked intermittently for the past 300 miles) but would like it to represent "supposed" mileage for service interval reference. The car has approximately 60K on it and I just did a t belt and water pump service, and I would like to write in my log book that it was done at odo reading 60k, not 13k.
