Bowden cable is too tight. Have you messed with it lately?

First, check fluid level with car level and engine running.

Sounds like you're dropping it into first, locking out second, etc.. You need to lift the car, have someone run through the gears with the engine off and watch what happens down there. Sounds like some serious binding, or overthrowing making the tranny think you've intentionally locked out second by shifting into low. Good luck.

you would do well to swap out the fluid and filter look for burned deposits in the pan smell the old fluid for burns, consider add some trans medic after the flush if correct performance isnt restored . Also inspect the bowden cable for correct tightness and that the vacuum lines are all good to the modulator. Also make sure the kick down switch isnt damaged
to test park the car in a garage turn on the key then press the pedal to the floor you should hear a click thats the kick down solenoid

Progress report, pulled into garage onto level ground and let car warm up , fluid was a little low noticed a leak at bottle connection, anyway, when warm went thru all gears and it done what it should, took it out for drive and it shifted well . Only thing I can think of is in my haste to get coffee and get out of town seems like I nay have put it in wrong gear and that was y it was not shifting properly! But I'm gonna keep my eyes on it!
