16 x 8 wheels 85 928S

Will a 16 x 8 with a 52.3 mm B/S fit on the rear of a 1985 928S, US version?

The stock wheel on the 85 928S is 16x7 with a 65mm B/S.

Also does the 16 x 8 fit on a 225/50 16, or does it have to be a 245/45 16?

I'm using (edit) 245/50 16 tires on 16x8 S4 stock rear wheels on an 85 with stock S spacers.
And, same setup on an 84.

The fender lips needed to be crush and rolled out a little bit to accomodate the sidewalls. I did it with a wood dowel while somebody rolled the car back and forth. There are tools available for a more professional job, maybe a wheel shop has one.

An alternative would be a slightly thinner spacer, say, 1/2 to 2/3 the width of the stock aluminum S spacer.

Not sure about the 52.3 specification in your post. Seems like it might stick out too far. Pictures / specifics about your target wheels might help somebody give better input. I have a set of 55 offset 8 inch Boxster wheels also that I've test-fit and the tires hit the fenders similarly to the S4 rims and required fender rolling.

You need the wider tire for the 8" rim.

When I ran 16x7 wheels I had 21mm spacers and 225s on the rear with no problems. Now I have 16x8 on the rear and run 245s on the rear and have a 1" gap between the fender and tire with no spacers. Hope this helps

Without the spacers though, right?

That is correct. 52 mm backspace with no spacers and 65mm backspace with spacers.

The 16x8 are 52mm and the 16x7 are 65mm just for clarification.

84/5/6 S bodies are the same.

Pictures one and two, below are of an 84S with S spacers and S4 rims. 245/50/16 Fenders were pulled outwards a bit to make them fit. (one side was tighter than the other, too, FYI)

Third picture is of an 86S with S spacers and standard S rims. 225/50/16 standard tires.

S4 8 inch rims w/ spacer

standard-issue rims w/ spacer
