Tom Selleck's old '88 S4, 5 speed. Can you say, leather?

Alot of you may have already seen this car, but for those of you that have not, it's quite a unique example. It was originally owned by actor Tom Selleck and is loaded with just about every option Porsche offered at the time. Good looking color combo too. I don't think I have any pictures of the exterior, but it was black with no side moldings and chrome dish wheels with painted centers. Check it out!

Sweet, huh?

Hands down I think cork is my favorite interior.

No external speaker grilles, is that normal? I like it.

Gorgeous, I know! You gotta give it to ole Tom, the man has great taste! And the tan leather with black carpet combo I've always thought was an absolutely beautiful and sticking contrast. The speaker grill covers in leather was definately a factory done thing. Whether or not there was an actual option code for it, who know's, but Porsche's special design department will do practically anything you want......................for a price, of course. Notice the padding that was actually raised where the speakers are located to accomodate them..............NICE!

Kinda funny that the star of Magnum PI, known for the red Ferrari 308(or whatever), owned a Porsche 928 instead.

hehe.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention, that it appears to me to have supple leather front seats and traditional perforated rear seats. '88 was the first year for the supple leather option, and if indeed this is the case with this car, this would be the only differentiating interiored 928 I've ever seen.

Can anyone tell if it's supple leather or not up front? The back can be easily verified by pics, but that looks pretty crunched up looking up front..........

I couldn't even tell it was tan instead of cork, cork is darker?

Inviting is what comes to mind, that interior makes me want to hop inside.

If I ever decide to really work over my door panels, that raised section for the speakers is something I might try, just not with the perforations.

*** Story I read had Selleck buying several 928's for both himself and other cast members.

I once had a '94 polar silver/classic grey 5 speed GTS that had an aftermarket cover over that same section where the speakers originally went. I'll try and dig up some pictures of it if I can. The cover was covered with a speaker cloth kind of material surrounding a custom made plastic piece that snapped into place. I really didn't like it because the drivers side cover kept falling off from over use when shutting the door. Kinda tacky, ya' know? But the whole system, HOLY CRAP! I've never had one come close to rivaling it. If I do find those pics, check out the entire rear hatch area..............

Oh, and the part about Selleck buying several 928's for himself and some of the other cast members.....................well, naturally!

Let me see if I can find those pics of that '94.................

BINGO! Here's that '94 I once owned......

McIntosh head unit, and amps to the bejeezus! The only 928 stereo I've heard that actually rocked!

http://www.928registry.org/1994-928GTS-0163.htm

Oh, and here's the closer, I bought it from a 928 uneducated Porsche dealership near Boston in 2000 for only $28,000! They had it listed for just one day (Sunday) in the Boston Globe for $32K obo. I got lucky and saw the ad, and the rest was history. But later that very same month, they had the car scheduled to come out in the Dupont Registry for $32K obo. The salesman that sold me the car actually called me after the Dupont came out and asked if I really knew what that car was worth when I bought it. I said, "Hell yeah!". He said that every other phone call the dealer was receiving was for that car and that it was driving everybody crazy! He said, that's the last time that will ever happen again! Lesson learned.......928's are the REAL Porsche!

but this one is probably the most heavily optioned leather car Porsche ever made... even the knobs and door handle inserts are leather!

Ironically, I see quite a few euro GTS's loaded up just like that one all the time on mobile.de. Everything you could possibly lay a finger on is either leather, wood or both. And to top it off, they also have fender flares, which I've yet to ever see on a U.S. model.

Just a few weeks ago, I saw one just like the one above, except it was Zermatt silver with a bright red, all leather interior including knobs, buttons and speaker covers, with the wood and all leather steering wheel and wood door inserts and console trim. Actually, it was quite a good looking car, with NO side moldings either (I hate those damn things!). And it could have been stolen because it had a blown motor! If importation wasn't $15K, plus another $15K for the engine, I'd have bought it. Oh, and yes, it was a 5 speed too! Sweeeeeet!

If I remember correctly, it was something like 10,000 euro obo. Hum?

So far the nicest looking leather I've seen comes from TX.

Specifically the seats in Paul's car, ostrich in the bolsters does it for me.

Ultrasuede is what I want to try next.

Does it have low miles? Who owns it now? Is it for sale?
I am buying another 928 as soon as I find a nice one.

A leather-saturated interior makes no sense to me.

That option cash could've been spent on something else....like.........uhh....

Then you are in luck. The sweetest 928 in the world is back on the market and it's near you also. I know the car well as I know the previous owner. If I had the cash, this car wouldn't be for sale anymore.

I am interested in this one. The wife has given me the green light for any 928 ($$$$$!) because we can take our 2 kids with us to car shows in the back seats.

Looks perfect!

It's probably the sweetest 928 I've seen in person with the exception possibly being the last 928GTS 5spd to roll off the production line which Porsche keeps in it's collection in Stuttgart. That one only had about 350 miles on it when I sat in it.
