Taillight wiring harness help

Does anyone know anything about the taillight wiring harness on an 87 S4 ?
I have issues from water damage and rust to the power connectors for the bulbs. I need to know if the socket assemblies are available or if you must buy the whole harness. I priced the whole harness and was shocked to find from $125 to over $200.
each. There must be a way to rebuild them and save some bucks. Any ideas ?

From the other web site!!! Photo and text is by "Whitesands" on RL.

I bought the bulb holders suggested (Part number from NAPA is 680-3296) 4 in a bubble pack, $12

These will fit with a small mod with a stanley knife and then will need to be spliced into the lamp loom.

These are double contact holders, on my car these were the ones that had rusted, all the single contact holders were fine.
This is the way I will go next time. Just solder the wires together in the harness.

I purchased the plugs at Napa and put them into the harness with no issues, It was pretty much "Plug and Play" The sockets were for double filament bulbs and I just spliced the wires together and soldered the connections. The brake lights work great as well at the turn signals. This is the first time in several years all the bulbs have worked at the same time. Thanks again Dean !

Killer mod! They get rusted when you have a leak in the housing somewhere. Mine was cracked on the backside which you can't see unless you totally remove it. Then you can seal it up with some rtv or silicone. Zero leaking so far.
