Rear hatch release question

When I have the rear tool kit removed from my 1985 928S US version, and I pull up on either hatch release switch, I see and hear the motor working.
I see what looks like the rod going in an upward movement, but no hatch release.

Does the entire white plastic assembly come out?
what is the metal rod supposed to release?

could it be disconnected from something?

hard to see on parts diagram

Is the hatch stuck closed, or are you just trying to get the electric release mechanism to work?

Add as much info as you can the more detailed your report of what is happening the better the diagnosis will be.
Anyway if you can get a helper to pull the switch while you look at the receiver it will let you see what should be happening.

And that is, you should see a white piece of plastic come from the front of the car and enter the receiver , this piece will push on the male portion of the latch ,
To adjust the throw of the plastic you can loosen the 2 10mm bolts on the latch housing move only a bit at a time up or down,
this should let the arm move into the receiver more or less,,
keep testing it,
if you cant get it to open the take a ziptie and cut to length and slide it under the rear side of the male portion of the latch this will tilt it ever so slightly forward then test.

Also make sure you dont have the hatch height adjusters screwed out too far this will put extra strain on the latch

Had the same problem a few years ago had to replace the latch where the hatch matchcs the body. Mine would not open even with a key. Had to drill small hole inside cabin/latch area to release. Works fine know.
