87 s4 cooling light stays on

New to the forum here. I'm supposed to be picking up an 87 928s4 on Friday. The dealer just calls me and says the cooling light won't go off and that the sensor checks out so there must be something wrong with the computer. Apparently they are not going to fix it first so I am wondering what I may be getting involved in. I've owned 2 85's in the past and remember what those fuse boxes looked like and I'm not sure I want to move forward with this car.

Thoughts on what it may be? Obviously wiring short? They did put a clutch in the car and also valve cover gaskets and spark plug seals. Maybe they pinched a wire. I'm not familiar with how that circuit is routed.

THanks in advance! Hopefully I can work through this so I can go pick it up.

usually a new coolant sensor is needed in the coolant bottle, and they may be NLA ,
or it can be the pressure switch next to the Rf shack tower has failed

Thank you for the information. I was told they ordered a new one from Porsche and after install the light still stayed on. I don't think it is a deal breaker for me. Finally found the one I want after searching for the past 6 years. 5 speed here i come! See you all here pretty regular starting Friday!

Tsill,
It could also be the coolant pressure sensor mounted on the passenger side of the engine compartment between the coolant reservoir and the 14 pin connector(usually right around the hood switch). The switch will begin to slightly weep coolant and you will get a warning light. The switch CAN be bypassed or you can
buy a new one for about a hundred bucks. I have bypassed two on my '84 Euros and replace one on my GTS.
YMMV

My 82 coolant light has been on for a while. I thought my float was bad. Filled up the reservoir yesterday, light went out.
