First Engine Drop
Guys I am diving into my first engine drop and everything is going along rather smoothly except for two issue:
Try as i may, I can not break the nut on the oil hard line. Does anyone have any tricks to get thew nut to break?:confused::confused: Similarly, the 10mm hex bolt that connects the starter to the transmission and engine does not want to cooperate. I tried both a 10mm socket and wrench but neither seems to go in deep enough into the hex bolt to apply enough torque to remove. Anyone ever encounter this?:mad::mad::mad: thanks |
If you haven't used PB Blaster try it, let it soak overnight and then again and wait a few hours...
On the Starter nuts PB them and use an impact driver, clean the inside of the bolt head use a q-tip type or a flat blade screwdriver. Not sure if you tried those. |

Impact driver is a metal cylinder about 1" x 6" usually with a male 3/8 square drive on one end and flat on the other for smacking with a hammer. They have an adapter and half a dozen large blade and Phillips style bits, so you will need a set of hex bit 3/8 drive impact sockets to go with one.
With a tough bolt I "lightly" seat the bit socket first into the bolt head with a hammer, then put the impact driver on the bit socket taking care not to loosen it, then give it a smack with the hammer. The smack slightly collapses the impact driver and causes it to rotate the bit socket at the same time. First time you use one you will know you have met a friend for life. |

If you need to buy the sockets they need to be impact sockets or you could crack the socket. |

I did drop my engine a couple months ago, and since I did not encounter your problems, I'm scratching my head... to the point I wonder if the engine is out yet or not. A pictures is definitely worth a 1000's words on this forum (928) or the 911 one :D:):D |
