Bolt positioning//Steering Rack Tie Rod ends To S4 Knuckle
Hey guys,
Helping out a friend on his upgrade on a 928 DTM Track car project with S4 & beyond front suspension bits. His 928 technically is a 1983 928S, and he is almost completed with the upgrade and it is time to connect the steering rack tie rod ends (ball joints) to the S4 knuckle. Question; Does the "bolt" from the tie rod end ball joint enter the hole in the S4 knuckle from the bottom or from the top? The 928 Service Manual he purchased in PDF format unfortunately is unclear and since his 928 was originally a 1983 and didn't dismantle the S4 front suspension, he needs assistance how it should go. I have all my goods in storage since relocating back to the states, and the time frame has been awhile so I am no help to him. Feedback here would be much appreciated, thanks guys. Keep up the great posts!!!

Look at the direction of the taper.

as Chris said the taper of the spindle will dictate how things go together,
the tie rod will only fit in one way
