cruise control problem
 

Setting the cruise will make it go WOT every time. Accelerate and resume go WOT too. Cancel still does cancel, thank goodness :) Any thoughts?

Sounds like your Cruise Control Box is going weird. It's a silver box right on the center hump behind the Center Console. It's kinda tucked in but I think you can gain access by just removing one of the side panels. You can open them up and check the circuit board for any obvious damage. Could be corroded contacts too at the plug.

Signal Stalk CC Control contacts could be damaged or stuck inside the Stalk too. This would require rivets removed and very careful disassembly. There are lots of springs, bearings, etc in the Stalk. I actually took one apart but it took one of my friends for re-assembly. I couldn't do it.

Someone just had a post on bad solder joints in the cruise control box. You might do a search on that. Also, check into Rennlist 928 section. I believe they may have also changed some comparator chips in the box.

It does sound as if some of the solder joints are loose. I have re-soldered 4 with the same symptoms and got 3 to work correctly again. The 4th had a very strong burnt smell before I re-soldered but tried anyway. Access is from passenger side and the box may be (should be) held down with an 8 mm screw.

Do many of us really use the Cruise control? I suppose on a long distance haul...but, I find I like Human Shark control anyway!

Yeah, since I fixed mine on my Euro. I found myself "never" using it, but it's there if i need it. I'm with you, I like full control of my Shark.

Sure do use it. If you drive long distances on open roads it is a nice feature. City driving NO. I actually think it improves gas mileage. Driving through Nebraska on I-80, set it to 75 and let it cruise.

I use my CC on long jaunts. Used it coming back from SITM the first time I went. Had it set at 110 all the way across AR. Even passed a stationary Little Rock LEO, but he declined to pursue. (thank God) :)

Lucky you. In California, that's automatic Jail time. Not that I haven't been at least that speed in both cars ;)

I hear you guys about the usage. Up here in Nova Scotia, most everything is a 20 - 30 minute highway trip. I use cruise in my other vehicles all the time. On the twisty back roads, never :) I can just be a bit picky about having everything working as it should! Thanks for the advice so far, I'll be sure to pull off the box and check the solder joints and post up what I find.
