Side view mirror removal
 

I’m replacing the passenger side door and I’ve removed the glass and the door mechanisms. It's not clear to me how to remove the side view mirror without having to cut the wires? Does anyone know if there is a connector within the mirror or at the far end of the wires behind the dash?

If you pull the carpet and foot board back you should see a little white round connector plug. Two go to the window and the rest for the mirror.

If you need to remove the door wire harness, then after removing the door mirror glass and motor there is a round multi-pin plug. Mark the position of the wires and then remove the pins from the plug (you will need a pin extractor - Snap-On make the tool for this) then you can pull the wire harness into the door and remove it.

The mirror approach sounds good too. I took a look at the this, but I see no way to get into the mirror. There is a small hole at the bottom, however I see no screw or means to get access inside the mirror.

To remove the door mirror;

1. Remove the glass, early cars the glass is held in by three pins and you need a putty knife to slide between the glass and frame.
push the lower part of the glass in towards the mirror and look at the top of the glass and the frame. If there is a metal frame there then it is the early type, if it has a PLASTIC frame then it's a late one. (mirrors are frequently changed so the car year is not that important). Once the glass is removed unscrew the three bolts that hold the motor assembly onto the mirror housing..then you will see the wire connector. To remove the mirror, loosen the allen headed bolt on the mirror base until the mirror will detach from the door. DO NOT completely unscrew the bolt or the clamp will fall into the door.

2. On the later cars, push the top of the glass towards the mirror until you can see some "teeth" on the lower part of the glass.
With a screwdriver rotate the teeth until the glass is free.
The housing is held in the same way, the wire connector is similar.

Notice that both types of mirror glasses have two wire connected to them, this is for heating and they need unclipping to remove the glass. Carefully pull the connectors off the glass.

Also becareful not to let the mirror drop against your door. It can scratch your paint.
