Check and clean all ground and 14 pin. Replace Green Wire if condition looks bad. My write up on the green wire.

Yep, probably the infamous green wire. At least that's where I'd start.

A 78 US or Euro will pretty much be a CIS car. The Green wire would be in all years up to at least the 83 (my S). Not real sure of how far up the years the green wire was still there.

Good call on putting the Model year in your Signature!

In addition to checking the previously mentioned items, you need to check the following.

1. Grounds, especially where the body connects to the engine.
2. Ohm test the coil.
3. Check the voltage at the coil during cranking. It should be at least 6 volts. If less than 6 volts, check the resistors.
4. Check positive battery cable where it connects to the starter.
5. Check the electrical connections at the back of the ignition switch.

+1 on the MY. The green wire was used up through model year 1984 in the US version of the cars(L-jet). The Euro (ROW) versions in 1984 and above were LH controlled injected engines and the green wire was supplanted by the CPS (a whole nuther set of issues)

ok its a 78 i think US 5 spd manual

Don't get too happy just yet. Spark is just the beginning. You see a lot of 928's that run with pouring gas or hitting it with some starting fluid.

Replace the pump and report back. I sure hope this is just the problem.

Nothing to be scared about. It's just a fact that most of us went through already. We'll sort you through it.

Also, how long has your 928 sat? If more than a year or two, you need to drop the tank and flush it. Old gas is like molasses, it will plug your new pump and filter if your lucky. If it makes it's way towards your fuel injection too, it will plug it up there too.
