Does anyone have or have used a lightweight starter?
I have one on my race car, but just found out that it doesn't spin the motor fast enough to start it. Brand new, not cheap, had it for a couple of years & forgot where I purchased it from: gonna swap on a stock starter to verify, but with a long/new 928 battery & 2' 2-gauge cables connected directly to the starter, barely turns it over & nowhere near fast enough to catch.
Irritating. :(http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1317825315.jpg |
My guess is that you can swap out just the motor and keep the adapter.

I have used several high torque starters on other non 928 engines. Never had a problem, even with some high compression large displacement engines. i suspect your starter is either defective or there is a fit/binding issue going on....

I wish the bottom of my engine was that clean!

Ok thanks guys (& esp. Sterling for the cut/paste), I'll inquire.
It's my race car: about to start her up: better be clean right? :) |
