Headlamp/Windshield Washer Motor Help!

Hello everyone,
I just bought my first 928, an '82 weissach edition. My headlamp washers work, but my windsheild washers do not. (wipers do work). I don't hear any suction or motor going off when pulling on the washer stalk. Do both washer systems use the same motor? or are they separate? What do you think the problem may be?

Also, do they use the same reservoir or separate ones?
And finally, what is the "porsche special silicone remover" reservoir for? It's on the extreme bottom left of the picture. (not my car)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Intense washers have a separate motor, right under the bottle ( for the special washer fluid) on the front left of your picture. Windshield washer motor is up on the passenger side, down on the body panel, adjacent to the washer water bottle, and a real PITA to get to.
From your picture, you should be spending time figuring out what that spaghetti wiring and random blue connectors you have up front there is for, before you worry about your windshield washers :-)

haha thanks neil! luckily thats not my car, i just needed to find a picture online to use to point out that intense fluid reservoir. Okay, so the intense washer is the headlamp washer, and it takes its fluid from the intense reservoir?

So now the question is, when I drained the intense reservoir and nothing was in it, my headlamp washers were working fine and spraying fluid.

Im sorry if my problem is hard to follow, im still getting used to the 928 lingo!

Good luck getting these to work. You can get them from 928intl.com, but they aren't cheap.

-Do you really need these? I bought my car in 1999, and they didn't work. I tried to get them working, but the units are dead. I don't drive my car in the sort of weather conditions where these are necessary [south Florida], so I have never tried to get them working.

You'll find that with this car, if you REALLY want EVERYTHING to work you will spend countless hours and thousands of dollars. What do you want from this thing? Personally, I like to DRIVE my 928, and while I enjoy working on it too, little useless things such as washers, I don't CARE and I don't want to spend my valuable time on them.

Good luck!

N!

There are several one way valves in the system, and if any of them are crudded up, the water will drain down if stuck open.
I'm in SoCal, and I don't remember if and when I ever used any wipers - or washers !

Like Normy said, don't fuss over the minor stuff, drive the d**m thing :-)

Just went through this on my car - there are 3 pumps, 2 reservoirs. The intensive washer draws from the reservoir you pointed out, and it's pump is right under the reservoir. The headlight washers draw from the reservoir for the main windshield washer (near the coolant reservoir on the right/passenger fender). There are 2 pumps drawing from that tank - one for the regular windshield washers and one for the headlight washers.

In my case the windshield washer pump didn't run. I put power to it directly to confirm, and then tried reversing the connection and it ran backwards. After that, I connected power in the correct orientation and it pumped water - must have been jammed up with debris. All is fine now - something you might want to try before pulling the pump out, as it's not easy to get to.

Thanks All!

I personally don't even care for the headlight washers, as I think they're useless, but just figured that if it would be easy to fix then I could give it a shot. Thanks again, glad to see the 928 forums are as helpful as the other models
