928 Wheel size, WTB turbo twist
 

I have a 1980 928. What offf set do I need on the porsche turbo twist wheels to fit this year.

If any one has wheels for sale with or with out rubber, I'm interested.

Any thoughts on 17' or 18'?

I have 17's and 18's. i JUST bought the 18's off craigslist. I had planned on putting them on my car. The seventeens are on my car now, the tires are shot, so it is just the wheels basically. both sets are staggered, idk the offsets off the top of my head, but they fit. The 17's are a little scratched, I was going to refinish them. make me an offer if you want, I live it CT, so i am not to far from you. i would prefer to sell the 17's. I can sell as is, or I can powder coat them any color for you and sell them freshly refinished.

Those are Boxter wheels, not Turbo Twists.

Yup, they still call them Twists but without the "Turbo." They are all over Craigslist and eBay since the Boxster guys upgrade them immediately. Just remember we are 65 offset then work from there.

About those Boxer wheels > ? are they the right offset ? you mention 65 offset

I know little about wheels and offset >> will those Boxer wheels work ok as is ?
or must you do something for them to track right ?

I heard Boxster Wheels are a direct fit. I do not know their offset but I would verify before buying them, just to make sure. I do know for a fact that Panamera wheels are a direct fit since I have wheels on my S that are Panamera Offsets.

If that's a Vega it's engine uses a similar alloy(alusil) for the block and combustion chambers as 928.

Is Alusil™ the same as Nikasil™? Which one is better?

Nikasil™, or it's similarly performing NSC (nickel silicon carbide composite) plating, while the best solution around, it is also the most expensive. Reynolds and Kolbenschmidt developed a process that still uses cast iron or similarly clad piston rubbing on an etched high-silicon aluminum bore. The Chevrolet Vega was among the first of the vehicles to use this new material technology. Needless to say, the Vega did not have a good reliability record and only limited 2.7 and 3.0 liter 911 models adopted Alusil™ cylinders, later replaced by Nikasil™ cylinders except on water-cooled models. Porsche's newest Boxster and 911 models use a modern version of Alusil™ called Lokasil™ while Porsche models like the GT2, GT3, and Carrera GT still utilize Nikasil™ platings in their bores.

There is quite some debate concerning the re-useability of Alusil-™ type cylinders going back to the etching/honing process done to the raw aluminum bores and re-ringing. This is not an issue with Nikasil™, as it can be readily re-honed or stripped and replated if required. An Alusil ™ cylinder can also be plated with a Nikasil™ or NSC-platings to allow reuse of these type of aluminum cylinders with conventional pistons and rings.

Still working on it when I can. I bought a fixer Foldable Trailer I am now in the process of painting. I need to pull the frame on the Odyssey and paint that as well. It'll look sweet, but not much daylight after work to do anything. I still need to put the Mitsu back together to sell it.

Boxster twists are;
Front 17x7 55 offset
Rear 17x 8 1/2 50 offset
they fit, look good,especially if you have big brakes
(set I have have 205x50 front (a seven inch wheel can take up to a 225 (check clearances though)
Rears have 255x 40, as wide as you should go with an 8 1/2 rim

general rule is 2 inches max bigger tire width over rim width, after that the centre of the tread can balloon up ,

Never worked out ,:confused:rims are in inches, tire width is in milimetres

kid in background is my buddy, he has a 85 911,

car in the background is a maverick! that is my brothers, the thing has a rat body but some kind of enormous motor, not really sure what it is. he is more of a muscle car junkie, but good eyes
