Check Engine Light- 94 928S- How to read codes- Resurrecting Ruby
Hello Folks!SmileWavy
My 94 928S AKS "Ruby" is coming back to life after an EXTENDED refurbishment. :rolleyes:There was a lot more that needed to be done than previously thought. Such is life in the big city.;) Small but important question: How do I pull the Check engine codes? She has awoken from her long slumber with a great deal of PM completed and currently lights her dash like she is rather unhappy about something. The good news is that she sounds VERY strong. Thanks for your help guys, I will be needing a bit more bits and pieces, but this car is going to be on the road soon. Oh Happy day.:) |
ahh there was not any 928S in 94 only a 928 GTS what year is your car ?
and what do you mean by all of the lights are on in the dash, if you meant the waring lights are all staying on after the engine is running then you most likely have a charging issue, once the alternator begins charging the warning lights should go out |
84, says in his sig.

Typo
Thanks for the catch Riber. Yes, It is a 1984 928S as depicted in the sig.
I will check the alternator output, and of course the grounds. SOOOO...How does one get the error codes for the check engine light on a 1984 928S??? Auto. Stock engine. |
you dont get error codes from an 84 928

As Mrmerlin says, there are no OBD-system on the early cars. All the warnings you see on the dash are triggered by mechanic switches in the system it warns about. For instance, the timing belt warning is triggered by a small metal strip connected to a wire and so on.. Tell us what warnings light up, and some may be able to point you in the right direction trouble-shooting wise.
