Driver side seat stuck

I moved my seat all the way up to vaccuum behind the seat and now it will not move at all. I tried changing the fuse and no luck. Is the motor dead? Could it be a pinched wire? Any suggestions please?

i think there should be a manual release under the seat - towards drivers door - looks like a tube pointing forward - move it towards the drivers side - should release - good luck

I have same issue with passenger side. Have heard about the manual release but I think its model year specific. At least I have not found the tube on either seat in my '85 model. i have the drivers side seat out and with easy access could not find the release. Good luck with yours.

The release isn't hidden or hard to get at. If your car has it, you can't miss it. My '82 has them.

oh, that's it your done. You just have to sell the car to a short guy now.

I could be the switch, do you hear any noise or twitch when pressing the button. You also could have lodged something in the track. Did it attemp any reward motion at all?

I have a 1988, does it have the release? I see a silver tube that looks like it can be wound, is that it?

Here is a picture of the underside of the seat so you can see where the release lever is. It is beside the right hand track, just above the electric motor. This level is used on the earlier models - I don`t know what year they changed.

This picture should help you figure out whether you have this lever or not.

I just totally killed myself, I have three 928's and I went to put the key in the ignition and realized I put the wrong 928 key into my 1988 928. Now it is stuck, I turned it halfway up to the start and now it won't go back down to the original position to come out. Any suggestions?

Rick are you referring to the long black tube next to the track on the right side of the picture

Yes that is the tube I am referring to. On my car (1978) you push that level toward the track to release the gear. It was quite sticky on my car and needed quite a bit of effort to move it.

I read somewhere that on newer 928`s there is a mechanism that you can wind manually and it turns the gear to move the seat back and forth.

Your problem with the seat could be the switch also. If the seat back moves, then the fuse and power to the seat are okay as there is only one power connection for each seat. In this case, the problem must be a bad switch, bad motor or pinched/disconnected wire. On mine there are three rocker switches on the seat - they are identical and therefore interchangeable. You could unscrew the switches on the side of the seat and try exchanging them.

There is no lever under the seat, I looked. There is a place where I can stick an allen key into but the teeth on the crank are broken so it is not letting the chair go back. What luck.

Which gear is bad, main drive to the rail, or just some emergency drive gear?

I would be looking at getting power to the motor if the main gear is OK, swap a switch as has been discussed.

If the main drive gear is bad, seat is going to need to come out, so I would do the back bolts and do whats needed to move it back once and get the fronts out.

BTW this thread really needs some pictures.
