If you live in the sun belt, that cap is toast the first hot sunny day.

I haven't heard of anyone here that has a Dash Cap, I've just heard all the nightmares associated with them.

Dash Cap = A proven way to waste money.
Like someone else said it is guaranteed fail unless you live somewhere the interior temp will never see above 70 degrees. Seriously. You can get the dash recovered (maybe even locally). You will have to remove it to do so, however dash caps will look really terrible.
YMMV and its your car :(

I have trye it on my car, and it is now 2 years sines i installed it. u can almost not tell the different from the original dash and it is a ok substitute to the original dash when that one is cracked...
Buuuuuut In the future I'm thinking to use leather on the dash just to get it done right...(the right feeling when I'm tapping with my hand on the dash before driving he he;))

Had a dash cap on my 85 when I bought it, that and Pep Boys seat covers really added to the price I paid. (NOT).

Its disgusting the way it shrinks and deforms, I torn it out first chance I had, and even the nasty cracked dash below it doesn't look at bad.

Hey, I got a fancy brown rug on mine and it has actually grown on me ;)

Eastwood actually has a vinyl dash repair kit for around $40. Not sure how good it is, but, it's probably worth a try.

Once the dash material starts to shrink, its going to crack or tear. I used to own a 240z so a dash crack is salt into a old wound that festered and never healed and now appears to have an alien life form growing in it.

you would be better off looking for the velor dash cover, they come in different colors
the ABS cap will bend the first time it sees sunlight over 120 degrees , it truly is a waste of your cash.

Im thinking of doing a black felt cover for a temporary low budget fix.
Anyone moved into the arena of felt/cloth coverings?

MPDano 04-02-2012 08:16 AM

Can't be worse than the Brown Carpet top on my S. I was thinking of one of those Leather Covers, they seem to look ok as well. Anyone with experience on them?

dcrasta 04-02-2012 11:04 PM

I want latex ones, that say magnum.. LOL

american-kiwi 04-04-2012 10:13 AM

I have a dash cap on my 928. I figured it would last a year or 2. Not so, within a day, the first time I was out in the Houston sun it was bubbled, warped, and completely ugly.....a total waste of money just like many have suggested.....and I went well out of my way to install it, removed the dash, applied copious amounts of the proper adhesive, clamped it up with more clamps than I knew I owned, left it clamped for 2 days, reinstalled it, by the way the pod cover causes all sorts of interference with the switches, requires very careful trimming...it also interferes with the steering wheel at the back, requires more trimming and shimming......very much a total waste of time.....and $$$ for hot climates...
