BBC's Top Gear Porsche Challenge

I hope this hasn't already been posted but, here goes anyways (as I didn't see it in any of the search results).

BBC's Top Gear Porsche Challenge

The Top Gear boys Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May are all given 1500 to buy a second hand Porsche. As the Top Gear production team provide a variety of challenges to put their purchases to the test, who will come out victorious as the best bargain buyer, and who will be shown to be the worst at selecting a vintage (and cheap!) Porsche?

Top Gear Porsche Evaluation -

Hey Curtisr, If their budget for each of their Porsche cars is $1,500 or Euros I don’t see that they could start off with very much of a vehicle unless they really did some shopping around. I have seen a few 944’s that were still running fairly well in that price range with a zillion miles on the clock but $1,500 just doesn’t buy much. I saw in a car magazine just the other day that a four cylinder 914 in nice condition was listed for $24,000. Were the Top Gear guys going to consider any particular model ?

Talking about tests, did you see the discussion earlier on this site about the Road and Track write-up on the aerodynamics of a 928 Porsche. I believe they used two identical 1983 or 84 928’s in a side by side efficiency test related to their drag through the air at various speed. The kicker was that one car had it’s body completely reversed and reattached to the lower chassis. This one now used the rear hatch as the windshield. The final numbers indicated that the 928 Porsche was equally aerodynamic when driven in either direction. I think someone mentioned that the Myth Buster program even had a segment covering the same topic.

I guess the aerodynamics test means the body is reasonably well designed.

1984 928S - "Miss Purdy"
1987 911SC - "Frau Helga"
1986 930 - "Well Hung"
1975 911 Targa "Blue"

Didn't they do this like 5 years ago, and it was very "TV show", as in negotiating on camera, then turning the car over to "people they know" to fix it up, but not well or completely or safely, put on cheap paint, then sell it again on camera. It was NOT a good deal for the seller, or the buyer, or anybody that worked on it, and result not something I would have recommended to anybody to buy. Makes me wonder what happened to the car?
