Radio issue
I'm almost embarrassed to ask this one...
Since I got the car it's had radio issues.. ( not working) So here I have a Sony CD player I bought I have accessory/Power lines marked and connected. Looks like I have From the car: Red & Red/white Brown & Brown/White On the CD Player: Speaker wires gray / gray/black (L +/-) White / white/black (R +/-) My antenna wasn't working so I bought a new one... No difference. My cable is bad (probably by a mouse ) so instead of removing everything to dig it out I got an under dash antenna from Crutchfield. Anyway, I can get the radio/cd to play but it gets scratchy after 10 or 15 minutes and I have to power off/power on.. and that sometimes doesn't bring it back. I also have to connect the power antenna line for the ( not connected ) power antenna to get any sound at all. I've looked at the wiring diag but the colors aren't marked, and I stink at wiring. The fader next to the drives side I'm sure comes in to play somehow also.. Any help is appreciated... My commute to Mass starts tomorrow... No tunes is a bummer.. Thanks -Dan

Well, sounds like not a stock radio for one. Not sure but mine came with Blaupunkt.
Did yours have a stock Blau amp mounted in the pod by passenger seat?? I replaced my original with a JVC touch screen. I had to bypass the original power amp, fader control and wire speakers directly to new unit. I kept the antenna in windshield and associated stock antenna amp. Your under dash antenna?? Not sure about this! Could be one problem. Sounds like you have a heating problem if it quits after 15 minutes. Are you sure the radio is good? Maybe bench test the radio and let it run to see if heat problem. You need a DC volt/ohm meter to check connections and voltage to radio. Get one at Lowes or Radio Shack, real cheap. Since I can balance speakers with my JVC I bypassed the fader/balance control by drivers seat. I was able to do the bypass in the pod where the amp is. Maybe all your speaker connections come in there like mine did, but I have a 86. German color codes a bit different then American. But I doubt any are standard anyway. Hope this helps you some.

Well, Maybe we pined it down. Anyway, Hope we have the answer. It may run hot under full load, but did it go into distortion. Give it a full load for an hour or so, as long as not beyond it's specs. Sounds like it may be defective. Return it if you can and are sure it's the CD/Radio. Good luck!
