I would put the plain Jane cheapo for plugs my girl like's them better than the platinum's etc.
check to see the the coil lead wire's are correct + - . Check your kick down lines.

With the help of a few friends, we checked fuel pressure and pretty much everything ignition related. When we jumped the relay it didn't buck (#30/#87). Also confirmed that when the engine revved up to 3000 rpm the power at the fuel pump in the back would shut off, then come back on when the rpms dropped back down.

We think it might be a Valet mode on the aftermarket alarm, but not sure. I can still drive it around but have to keep it under 100.

Anyone have any recommendations on how to figure this one out? I'm not having any luck.
What are some of the conditions that might shut the pumps off?

BTW.. I also swapped out the ICU, no difference.

Valet Mode -

As most owners probably already know, on alarms which incorporate the Valet Mode - it is triggered to cut the ignition or fuel once a specific RPM is reached. Many times the biggest challenge is locating the infected circuit. I helped remove an after-market alarm one time that monitored everything but the air in the tires. Once it was cut out - we just about didn't get the car to run again because of all the jumpers, splices and twisted wires under the dash.

Good Luck, Michael :)

Sounds like you may be on the right track. Focus on the inputs to the fuel pump relay 15 , 31 and 31b. Those control the relay's coil. May need to get a voltage meter on each lead and see what changes state at 3,000 rpm. Also do a search for alarm. I recall reading a few decent threads that described the alarm system on the early cars.

A good ICU will engage the relay. You swapped it out and no change......If the symptom is consistent, then you may very well have a valet set somewhere. Anything else is going to be random. I should think that the valet will get signal from tachometer feed and trip a relay in it's control unit when engine speed is over 3K. Any idea of the alarm manufacturer?

When i had a bucking problem with my '86 Carrera, it would basically only happen at around idle rpm in 1st gear,

turned out to be my CV joints..

Lousy pic but here's the fob.

The fob Reads Python, has 4 buttons ( Roman numerals I - IV ).

Viper and Clifford come to mind as being the big names in car alarms during the mid 80's. Look for a hidden toggle switch somewhere. Glove box....under dash. Could be anywhere. Not sure if the technology allowed valet to be set with the remote back then. I know the new alarms can do this. Lock/unlock quick in some succession......that type of thing. It is common to set valet to around 3K rpm. The fuel pump circuit was often interrupted. Call a local alarm/stereo installer and ask where the brain may be hidden in the 928. May also be able to identify the remote. Viper has a web site. Maybe they can help.

I found the alarm in the dash behind the instrument cluster..

Figures.. No manufacturer listed.

I wonder how many "Model 7200"'s are out there...

Gemini 7200 Alarm -

I think Gemini makes a 7200 model car alarm. Don't know anything about them or if this is the one you're looking for - but this may be a start.

Good Luck, Michael

Thinking its part of the Viper family. I recall Sidewinder 7200 being a model. Your remote looks to be Viper. There is a reset function that involves ignition on and sequence of remote button operation. If in valet mode, the LED should be lit solid when armed and no chirp when arming or disarming. If the alarm is arming, its not in valet mode.
