Parts for Starter Motor

I had to pull my starter today as it only clicked when I turned the key and the battery was fully charged.

I thought I would have to buy a new (rebuilt) one for $250, but decided to take the old one apart to see what was wrong. The brushes were worn and the commutator all carboned up. So I sanded the commutator and brushes and put it all back together. It is now working like a charm and didn't cost a thing.

This fix will not last a long time as the starter is in need of new brushes. Does anyone know if there is a place to purchase a new set of brushes? Or will I end up having to buy a new starter. Seems like a very expensive purchase for a minor problem.

Rick

Sanding the brushes and commutator only lasted one day!

I obtained a Bosch starter from Auto Parts in Canada! - Canada Auto Parts Online here in Canada for $119 with free shipping and one year warranty. The starter came in 2 days and I will install it tomorrow.

Glad I found a place to buy from in Canada and avoid all the border crossing time/issues. This is the same place I bought some of my clutch parts (clutch disk - $115) and saved a bunch of money.

pjg - I sent a 'contact us' email to the brushes place right away, but did not get a reply. Thought it would be quicker to just buy the new starter and not that much more expensive.
