Nobody stops looking that is really hooked. I was half way ready to buy #4 about three times in the last year or so.

928 in the OP post is a toss up at $1k. Not much money, but wow, it is beyond love fixing, into serious money pit territory. Euro 79 is same as a US, no title maybe no issue for some, but killer for others. As a parts car its a CIS 4.5, which means anything that still works on it, likely still works on all other 928s.

Funny thing to me is mine is 10 x worse than this one... And I'm saving her.... It's sad.... He started at 1200$. I have been watching it for a while....if all it needs is a clutch master to actually run and drive....

If nothing jumps on you and bites when you walk past it, yours isn't worse than this one.

Seriously, you can't tell condition and how much it needs without some eyes on it up close, and even then you won't know if the coolant has gone acid and ruined the heads etc.

I have nothing against anybody that wants to fix a far gone 928, but it WILL be more expensive than starting with a nicer car, and I don't care to spend that much.

Point well taken...and mine is probably worse, but I love it already...so she gets saved....now once I can get back to working on her I might change my mind...it's still all hinging on the motor and gearbox being good...no indications of problems...but until I can get the fuel system reinstalled, it's in limbo....

he says it used to run and drive but the clutch master is now bad (pedal on floor) what are the chances the clutch need to be refilled and bled instead of needing replaced? I bought my 4runner for $500 because it wouldn't start and walked straight out the door and bled the clutch (with help from a friend) then fired it up and drove it home! it'd be worth looking into! I'm always amazed at the number of people who have manuals that don't know that the clutch pressure will leak down if you leave 'em sit for a while... and this car certainly looks as though shes not seen a dance in a while !

Also is that green mold growing in the interior? I think the owner might be a douche he cant sell it to a boneyard because they wont buy a car without a title they are legally bound from doing that so hes saying you MUST give me $1000 for this car otherwise I'll sell it to the scrapper for less? also He'll have to pull the tank and do a bunch of other crap before the recycler will even take it . also if he doesn't know anything about these cars while the hell does he have a van load of spare parts for it ? is he send the parts to the scrapper too or is he gonna try to list em at exorbitant prices on ebay? I'd be wary of this guy! Who tries to sell a car by threatening to kill it if someone doesn't offer his asking price? what the crap is that some kind of reverse hostage negotiation tactic? Hes essentially screaming "SAVE MY CAR FROM ME!...AT THIS PRICE !...OR ELSE! ...OH BY THE WAY ITS BROKEN!!!"

No title in Calif means the car must be cut in half before the scrap guys can sell it to the metal recycler. I'm having a hard time accepting the metal scrap value of even a mostly intact 928 exceeding $300, unless a LOT of labor went into separating the metals, pulling studs out of the block etc.

I feel so forunate every time I read about some of the 928s out there. I am 56 and never thought I would own the coolest Porsche every built, IMO. And get to work on it from time to time.

The first 14 months were the hardest on my brain but not on my wallet, thank God. It is not the fastest or the nicest looking but it is all mine.
