Repair Dash Cracks
Trying to stay ahead of the curve, I would like to repair my dash, it has the usual longitudinal cracks in the dash.
When i bought the car it had one of those crappy plastic covers, i pulled it off after removing the windshield. I would rather look at the high quality cracked dash than that blue molded styrene.. It would be much easier to repair the dash before i re install the glass. I have an idea of what i might do, but would like to know if there is some great filler product i don't know about. Anyone who has achieved a good quality repair, please advise.

The vinyl shrinks, no filler job lasts long, and from what I understand its easiest to pull the dash and not worry about the windshield to make repairs. My own plan is to repair a dash, actually cover it in Alcantara, and swap it out at some convenient point in time.
If you search you should find write ups various people have done with the fill and sand type repairs. |

If the cracks are fairly small, you can get a vinyl dash repair kit (sold in many auto parts stores)...It works...I've seen a few jobs that looked OK when done properly, but, again, only works on small-med cracks. You can still see where it was repaired......but, better than no repair.
But, Dangler is right....Dash repairs are short lived.... I'm also thinking about removing my dash, and trying to do a fill job, and maybe re-cover it with Alcantara (as Dangler mentions)....But, for the time-being I purchased a "DashMat". Cost me $60, and actually looks halfway decent (I ordered the suede dash cover). Chris

Alcantara is nice for a dash application because it absorbs light which reduces glare. Being used a lot the last 5 years or so in new production sports/GT cars.
Used a lot by Porsche.
